RMweb Premium Nile Posted August 29, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 29, 2018 This may be news to some, but not to any of us. The only difference between boys and men is the price of their train sets (or Lego sets).
Steamport Southport
Well I saw this advertised the other week and want one. Definitely not aimed at the kids market. Talltim
What the article hasn’t picked on the Lego obviously has is that the first generation of Harry Potter fans have hit the age where they can buy expensive toys for themselves, hence the release of the new Hogwarts castle set at 6020 peices and £345 https://shop.lego.com/en-GB/Hogwarts-Castle-71043 Edited August 29, 2018 by Talltim
davefromacrossthepond
OK. The castle is pretty cool.
RMweb Premium Legend Posted August 29, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 29, 2018 It’s not really a surprise . Lots of people used to complete jigsaws for relaxation. Lego is a kind of three dimensional Jigsaw . The other thing about Lego is that it’s a one stop shop. You buy the whole kit to complete it and that’s it . You don’t need to buy extra track to extend train sets ,power , scenery etc etc . While this may appeal to some folk , others just want something to put their time in all in one box. So I’m not sure there’s a direct link between Lego and Model Railways

Na, I need at least one more brick. I think I have 402 on order right now... (hmm...plus some other ones...) James
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted August 30, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 30, 2018 Hogwarts castle set at 6020 peices and £345 I think the number of pieces in the Saturn V set is rather nice touch.

So I’m not sure there’s a direct link between Lego and Model RailwaysWell the whole point of the themed ranges is you can keep adding to it just like model railways. Lego City includes railways, vehicles and buildings so pretty much just like a Hornby trainset. The clever thing is they lock you into their brand much more than model railways do. I bought some of the Lego Christmas range as something different to resin Christmas villages and have added buildings, the train and another loco from sets plus some 'scratchbuilt' pieces so very much expandable just like a trainset too.
54Strat
I'm lucky enough to work on the LEGO video games, one of the designers here has this... https://www.flickr.com/photos/bricktrix/albums/72157626190876621 Also, as well as designing the LEGO Caterham Set, he has few of these.... Loads more and other stuff on his Flickr.. https://www.flickr.com/photos/bricktrix/albums He's probably on this forum, not sure of his username.
