peak experience
I've seen plenty of photos of class 27s at Inverness so I'm presuming (maybe incorrectly) that IS drivers were passed out on these machines. I don't think I've ever seen a pic of a 27 on these either the Kyle or Far North lines. Can anyone shed any light on any uses over the years, of these engines working these lines? luckymucklebackit
Hi - This has been discussed before http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/9593-far-north-highlands-of-scotland/ The consensus was that the 27 did t venture North or West of Inverness but very infrequently, the plausible reason being that they were not fitted with the headlights that were a requirement for these lines. If you want to model the typical it would be best to stick with Class 26s. David Edited July 26, 2018 by Kylestrome

RMweb Premium Alex TM Posted July 26, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 26, 2018 Hi everyone, It seems reasonable to assume that IS drivers were passed on class 27, but I understood that their main use was on the line to/from Aberdeen. Interesting to see photos of the 27s north of Inverness; they're new to me too. Regards, Alex.

Jim I don't think headlights were ever a requirement. There were quite a few 26s allocated to IS which didn't have them and worked the Kyle and Far North lines regularly. https://www.flickr.com/photos/davidhayes/6106841597/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/152343870@N07/25684612397/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/72856291@N05/8645450973/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/tunnel_one/6129606183/ It seems this 27 made it all the way to Wick, though freight as far as Lairg brought in 40s and 47s quite regularly and probably 27s from time to time. I can't think of any cement terminals on the Far North line.
