RMweb Premium John Isherwood Posted September 12, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 12, 2018 I have a couple of Airfix versions which could do with new chassis and motor mounted in the loco instead of the tender. Appparently Comet do a very good chassis for this type of thing. Having just fitted three Airfix 4Fs with Comet chassis I can thoroughly recommend them. Combined with Markits wheels, High Level gearbox, Mashima motor and a substantial flywheel, the running is superb. Regards, John Isherwood.

Steamport Southport
David The Southeastern Finecast 4 F is one of their revised kits and uses its own chassis FC159. The older Wills kit was designed to fit the Jinty chassis, Southeastern Finecast do a revised chassis for thei F.C. 202 ( for a tender loco)/ Might be worth speaking with Dave Ellis at SEF as to your best option, I think the splashes on the Wills kit are part of the footplate casting, worth checking to see FC159 fits Worth pointing out they do both the Midland and LMS versions as separate kits. hayfield
Worth pointing out they do both the Midland and LMS versions as separate kits. F159 Midland Railway 4F F179 LMS Fowler 4F Jason Jason Thanks I was more on concerned about the.ength of the chassis and wheelbase being correct. As I said a quick word with a Dave could save a bit of hassle. The other thing could be to upgrade the Wills kit with the extra SEF parts. Dave Ellis is happy to supply them
RMweb Premium John Isherwood Posted September 12, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 12, 2018 Looks good John - which High level Gearbox and gear ratio would you use? LOADHAULER+ ; ratio depends on the top speed required and the motor used; the proprietor of HL will happily advise. Regards, John Isherwood.
RMweb Gold ianLMS Posted September 17, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 17, 2018 (edited) Completion of some subtle weathering, with only crew (Modelu) and glass (Krystal Klear) to add before it can commence its duties hauling suitable freight around the layout. Thoroughly enjoyed the build. Again, mistakes were made with some parts suffering slight damage, but overall I am quite pleased with the results.
