As long as it worked, thats the main thing. I specifically qualified the paint i was stripping as I've not tried it on any other brand or factory finishes, so what works for Vallejo, may not work for other paints.

It was @The Fatadder that pointed me in the direction of using isopropyl for the removal of ‘factory’ paint…..works a treat

Tiny bit more progress

Chassis now back to black but now in a nice even flat black, Cylinders given a coat of satin gloss as a contrast and the brake linkage given a coat of red

IMG_0475.jpeg.e71ccfe9940ad8d783448303939ba4d2.jpeg

Still haven’t gotten around to redrawing the cab yet so I might put the green coat on the tank

Ideally part of the motor housing should be green too but I don’t fancy stripping it down or masking it up…..but I might change my mind

I’m so predictable!….

IMG_0476.jpeg.2777c773343f7dd40e680c5ce441da7f.jpeg

….ended up having to brush paint it which I don’t like as I prefer to airbrush but masking proved difficult

Hopefully once assembled my dodgy brush painting will be less noticeable

I submerged the parts in 99.9% Isopropyl, left it overnight and the next day used cotton buds to wipe away the paint

Thank you Chris @chuffinghell

Bookmarked for future reference.

Buffer beams painted….

…..but I’ve run out of paint, only had enough to do one of the buffer shanks

IMG_0483.jpeg.839c1e0a1336fb78f4bd288cfa642c97.jpeg

Also off a Pannier, I must have bought one for spares but I can’t remember doing so

I’ll need to do a bit of a touch up here and there, I may have to weather this loco to hide any dodgy bits 😩

Before paint I filled the top vacuum pipe hole so I can mount it lower as the cab overhangs at the rear

I’ve also repainted the vacuum pipes in the same colour red so it matches (I really should get out more)

And one day I will learn how to take better photos 🙄

Try holding the camera further way then cropping the picture to the size you want.

This better explains why I’ve filled the vacuum pipe top mounting hole….

IMG_0487.jpeg.3c2bb0212e31a82d66c84f940716a449.jpeg

….basically the top peg in the bottom hole. The bottom peg sits under the buffer beam (luck more than judgement)

Thanks to @KNP for the photography tips, this one looks better than previous attempts

Doesn't help only having the camera on my iphone* and unable to hold it still 🤪

*other makes of portable telephony equipment are available

Unfortunately my paint hasn’t arrived today so progress has slowed

Fitted the one buffer that I managed to paint before running out….

Fortunately the buffer fitted with only a very slight tickle with a round file

Also jumped the gun and applied the buffer beam number transfer supplied by a well known transfer manufacturer that offers custom transfers (Due to the new advertising rules I can say who it was but it rhymes with flipping’eck)

Painted the sand boxes with my ‘home brew GWR green’….

….getting there, very slowly as usual

Good afternoon Chris,

The tool boxes look excellent, proper job.

I use Steve as my go -to now for all decals, especially bespoke ones for loco re-numbering including GWR cabside plates.

Cheers, Nigel.

Thanks Nigel

I generally only go to Steve for transfers too but due to the new advertising rules I’m frightened of speaking his company name 🤪

Assuming you mean the Steve from Rail…. oops nearly said it

In my usual style of being too impatient to wait for paint to dry…

IMG_0500.jpeg.9d5878386d66a5150b1ad6ae1717ce71.jpeg

…just placed on

Possibly a little oversize but this is meant to be a bit of fun*

*keep telling myself that in the hope I might believe it 😂

Nothing to stop you from recommending a trader - it's just that they can't come on and shout about their products blatantly, unless they are a trade member.

Phil Parker looking on my thread 😮 what an honour!

I’d better start behaving myself

Additional

Now Phil has cleared that up the buffer beam transfers were of course from @railtec-models 👍

Those toolboxes look great Chris, way better than the white metal items that are often a bit hit and miss.

What you need next is some early pattern footplate mounted sandboxes like a 517.....cough......

😝

I don’t need any but if you know someone that does and they have sufficient information I’m sure I could do them a favour
