Fishplate
Love the reflections* in that picture. So realistic. * you might get the 'love heart' reflection if you put the swans beak-to beak. 1

Thank you, I’ll see what I can do these I’ve started to paint are springside white metal items but having a look on the net I’ve just downloaded some printable STL files so I should hopefully be able to print my own It cost me a fiver but I thought it would be worth a try
MrWolf
If you want to drive yourself completely bats I would go with trying to paint 4mm scale Moorhens. 2

Tortuga
Easier to do them puttering about on the water than scuttering about on land!

RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted April 15, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 15, 2023 (edited) I’ve printed some swans ’C’ left ‘B’ right compared to the Springside models Both ‘C’ but with one smaller than the other Edited April 15, 2023 by chuffinghell 9 4
RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted April 15, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 15, 2023 Probably just me but I thought that the first one (A) looked a bit too ornamental, for some reason looking at it made me want to buy matches? I think (C) is the best one because the ‘feathers’ are more subtle Interested in other people’s options though

I think the Springside ones are the best though. 1

That surprised me! I’m not keen on the springside ones if I’m honest, mainly because there is very little detail on them…. ….especially the one on the right It could just be because I don’t like white metal figures in general maybe? RMweb Premium St Enodoc Posted April 15, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 15, 2023 The feathers on all the printed ones look far too pronounced.
RMweb Premium MAP66 Posted April 16, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 16, 2023 To me, 'C' has the better head shape than the metal versions. To make the feathers less pronounced give it a coat of white primer and then a couple of coats of white, that should loose some of the definition then place it on the canal along side the metal swan and see which looks best. 1

They look more like duck billed platypussies .The beak is much more refined on the printed ones and the overall shape more defined IMHO. 3

RMweb Premium John Besley Posted April 16, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 16, 2023 (edited) Dont forget the Springside ones have been around for years .... I used to paint batches of them for Springside for their trade stands back in the early 80's Jess Janes was their pattern maker for a long time, very skilled engineer ex Reading Post Office after he came out of the Navy, he moved to Newton Abbot in the 70's and worked on the DVR as a fitter initially as a volunteer than full time staff till early 80's - great character. When he retired from Springside he specialised on rebuilding LGB locos as custom build engines mainly selling them through GRS - Garden Rail Specialist Sadly been gone maybe 20 years ago Edited April 16, 2023 by John Besley Schpelling
RMweb Gold Popular Post chuffinghell Posted April 18, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 18, 2023 (edited) Those who follow @MrWolf’s Aston On Clun thread below will have noticed his mention of a GWR tool van to diagram CC2 we are jointly working on It started after a discussion about Rapido’s Iron Mink that soon followed on to modifying a Ratio Mink into a tool van It was known from the start that an Iron mink was too short in length and wheelbase but I looked at it none the less however it didn’t take long for me to decide to draw a tool van from the ground up using diagram CC2 in ‘GWR GOODS WAGONS’ by A.G.Atkins, W.Beard & R.tourret Edited April 18, 2023 by chuffinghell 14

hmrspaul
That's very nice, the rivetting is very fine. I think your door framing is rather heavy though, makes the panel of the door appear too narrow. https://PaulBartlett.zenfolio.com/gwrdeptcoach/ec38497c Paul 1 2
