RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted April 19, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 19, 2020 Now because I’ve only got four lamps that survived I’ve had to recalculate the spacing The first lamp position is fixed as a marker for the magnets Fortunately the centres have worked out quite nicely at roughly* 210mm with approximately* 420mm centres between the station building *I’ve made sure each lamp falls on a full slab, hence the approximate centres As always, method in the madness
RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted April 19, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 19, 2020 Too late now, holes have been drilled I perhaps should have positioned them further back however Hopefully I’ll be able to get them plumb when I glue them in place The paint still isn’t hard enough to fully assemble the lamps but it’s another job off the list

Fishplate
Hi Chris. All excellent modelling ☺. I would expect there would be some space to the fence behind the lamp post. This would allow for the foundation and some access for maintenance / future painting. I would assume (but don't know) that lighting would have arrived later in a rural stations life, so the fence line would have been there when the lamp posts arrived. Others may be able to confirm better than me. 1

RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted April 20, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 20, 2020 Lamps reassembled, something else crossed off the list And yes there is a list Yes I know I’m a sad g!t but I don’t want to forget something otherwise I’d end up glueing the platform down and then realise I’d not wired in the lighting The items in blue are what I plan to do tomorrow in the order I want to do it, saying that I’ve only crossed three things off today
RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted April 20, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 20, 2020 In my defence of only crossing off three things I have done two that weren’t on there My yellow flock arrived this morning And I’ve soldered the wiring for the lighting....erm ‘bus bar‘ It should work

Lovely job Chris, ye canna see the join. Al. Thanks Al I wasn’t sure if I’d got it right Weathering the platform was more difficult than I thought it was be, it took several attempts to get it in that state Sarah watching Coronation Street gave me the opportunity to get ‘weathering’ the lamps off the list Edited April 20, 2020 by chuffinghell

RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted April 21, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 21, 2020 (edited) lamps done 9v battery test, once wired to a potentiometer they’ll be a lot less bright Rightly or wrongly I’ve blacked out the rear clear panel in an effort to reduce the amount of light thrown on to the wall Edited April 21, 2020 by chuffinghell ‘on’ to the wall not ‘in’ to
RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted April 21, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 21, 2020 (edited) With the voltage dialled down it looks like this The lamps look different sizes, it’s an optical confusion. They are the same, I know this because it was bugging me enough to get the vernier callipers out to check Edited April 21, 2020 by chuffinghell Smelling Correction 12

RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted April 21, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 21, 2020 (edited) That’s it for today Ugly side Pretty side That’s three more things off the list, I’m wondering if it might be easier to do the point rodding before gluing down the platform just to give me more room to work Edited April 21, 2020 by chuffinghell 12

RMweb Gold chuffinghell Posted April 23, 2020 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 23, 2020 After finding this photo I thought about flowers in barrels on the platform I have some barrels so I’ve cut one in half and hollowed it out as best I can with progressively larger drill bits Looks about right Just need something to stick in them now
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted April 23, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 23, 2020 It's all these little details that help make the bigger picture complete, without necessarily noticing them - if that makes sense. 1
