johnlambert
But that's the same for a lot of cars. I'm not 100% sure but I believe the Cortina mk3 and 4 had the same chassis/running gear and I've heard it mentioned that the first Sierra's did also. The Sierra had very little in common with the Cortina. Some engines were carried over but the suspension was completely different (Sierra had Macpherson struts at the front and independent, semi-trailing arms at the rear; Cortina had double wishbonnes at the front and a coil-sprung live axle with various radius arms to locate it plus the infamous voided bushes). I don't think there was a single panel shared between the two models. The Mk 3, 4 and 5 Cortinas were all very similar underneath even if they looked different. And (apologies if it's been mentioned before) the Ford Escort Mk2 Estate was just a Mk1 Escort estate with Mk2-style front wings and grille. One final piece of Ford trivia. The Ford Escort Mk3 cabriolets weren't converted from the hatchback, they were based on the 3-door Estate body.

The Sierra could be classed as a mark 6 Cortina, a lot of the underpinnings were transferable, sometimes with no modification at all.
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted June 17, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 17, 2018 Given that Ford apparently built Mk.1 shells onto Mk.2 floorpans suggests there wasn't much change under the skin. There was very little change, only the outer panels. The estate and van versions were identical from the A post back and even the van rear doors were carried over from the Anglia van. BernardTPM
Yes, they certainly got their money's worth out of those doors! - 20 years 1961-81.
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted June 18, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 18, 2018 I wonder if its possible to fit Cararama or Oxford wheels to any of them.
ianmacc
Almost certainly. The wheels supplied are separate castings so should be possible.
Lyddrail
I ordered 4 of these models, 2 types of Escort vans, an RS2000 Escort and a Cortina. They look good but I haven't had time to give them a good going over. Might be next month before I have time. If I get a chance I will take some photos. Cheers.
ianmacc
Pictures would indeed be great if you get the chance. Even of the raw moulding as received

The bodies are hollow if you want to remove the windows. The material takes a file ok with a test on a wheel and tyre. Cheers.
ianmacc
Thanks. What spec of material did you choose? They look quite sugary. Good to see though. Wonder how difficult opening out the windows would be? Guess they’re quite brittle...

Merfyn Jones
It was the cheapest price, I think about £11, there were other options. Cheers. I bought 2, an Escort 2 Estate in similar material to yours Paul and a Escort 4 Kombi van in a far better finish which is almost translucent. Will see how it turns out after primer.
jcb 3c
Wonder why they do a MK111 Cortina pick-up as we never got these in UK . Maybe not a UK company ? P100's had the Mk V front end. http://pickupand4x4.co.uk/ford-p100 Edited July 6, 2018 by jcb 3c

ianmacc
Looks like it is worth spending on the better finish. Do you have any of the translucent raw prints you could up load please? Wondering if I can get away with leaving the windows in if they’re partially see through...

III's have been imported privately. The chassis is derived from the Transit made a bit narrower.
jcb 3c
Yes back in the day I remember our local left wing council being horrified that some of their vehicles had Made in South Africa stickers in their windscreens .

Left the mk2 estate in the same as Paul's and right the more expensive but not most expensive mk4 van. Won't be buying any more of the cheapest type. The van has maskol on the windows, will see how it works out. The estate has had one coat of beige over the primer so far. p s. Has anybody else noticed the wipers are for left hand drive ? BernardTPM
And the window areas could do with being a bit smaller on the Mk.2. Perhaps make a thin plastic frame to mount over the recessed area? I agree on the finish; the obvious question being is the 'best' material significant better still? Around £25 (plus postage, I assume) for a 4mm car is quite a lot. ianmacc
Well if nothing else I’ve started the appearance of ford escorts and Cortinas on the layouts of the U.K. Looking forward to seeing the first ones to be completed! Edited to say of the previously unmodelled marks before anyone jumps in... Edited July 6, 2018 by ianmacc

The van has had a top coat of Halfords yellow (guess what the livery will be) and the Maskol removed from the windows and it looks great, the translucent material gives the windows a good colour from a distance without being able to notice the lack of interior.
