RMweb Gold BMacdermott Posted March 4, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 4, 2018 Hello Chris If no-one here comes up with an answer, you might find something via the link below (but seems to postal only). Looking at other photos, it certainly seems to have a West Midlands look about it. dibber25
Yes, I'm sure Davidbcp is correct. Saunderton would be logical as a place I would have called in to on the way to or from one of my 'station tour' trips. Sadly that building has gone, but the matching waiting room on the other platform seems to have survived, albeit somewhat modernised. There's evidently a wonderful piece of history relating to the building in my photo. If you Google Saunderton station images you'll find a story from the Bucks Free Press -with a photo from a similar angle - showing that the building was burned out by suffragettes in 1913. Liam
I wonder what that building behind (which tricked me into thinking that the station was in the West Midlands) is; Saunderton seems to be a rural area.
RMweb Gold TheSignalEngineer Posted March 4, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 4, 2018 There were some of these stations in the West Midlands although many went during various improvements. The up side at Lapworth had a mirror image to the one shown right up to 1972.
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted March 4, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 4, 2018 This is Saunderton - in greater detail thanks to suffragette activities (as it's Ebay this picture might not be around for long) - https://www.ebay.ie/itm/rp17000-Saunderton-Railway-Station-after-Fire-by-Suffragettes-photo-6x4-/361493603163 The modern background definitely doesn't match for Saunderton
Orion
The 1977 OS map of Saunderton shows a largish works building just where one should be on the opening post's photo. Since demolished and largely replaced by modern housing. Edited March 4, 2018 by Orion
vpetg
I agree it is Saunderton. The building behind was I believe Austin Hoy. Ebay has some good photos for 'Saunderton Station' Regards Peter

RMweb Gold TheSignalEngineer Posted March 4, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 4, 2018 (edited) Check out the building (and fence) to the left of the bubblecar in the 4th photo of this post http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/64117-out-of-marylebone-pre-chiltern-railways/ Edited March 4, 2018 by TheSignalEngineer
dibber25
These look like WW2 military buildings to me, which probably explains why the land has since been redeveloped as housing. (CJL)
RMweb Premium Davexoc Posted March 4, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 4, 2018 I agree it is Saunderton. The building behind was I believe Austin Hoy. The company had various names over the years through aquisitions/mergers or whatever. It was also known as Anderson Stathclyde. Hoybide etc. and was a Tungsten Carbide tool making facility. All gone now and is just houses, and Saunderton is one of those few stations you can park your car at for free... Dave
