RMweb Gold russ p Posted March 2, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 2, 2018 Just bought a tts decoder and 8 pin dcc concepts adapter, all works fine but too tall for body! Is there an adaptor that is better suited or an 8 pin Bachmann 47 I've read the decoder isn't man enough for Heljan version Cheers
RMweb Gold russ p Posted March 3, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 3, 2018 The Bachmann adaptor looks smaller so I've ordered one from Cheltenham model centre I hope they really are in stock as they seemed to be the only place not sold out
RMweb Gold russ p Posted March 3, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 3, 2018 Cheers Richard, the only other option is cut the 8 pin plug off and solder the wires into the 8 pin socket on the adaptor Will see it Bachmann adaptors turn up first

RMweb Gold russ p Posted March 11, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 11, 2018 Is there a better speaker that will fit under the fans available?
Paul-H
Hi You could try one of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20x30-Bass-Speaker-Compact-Fits-Inside-Most-Bachmann-Diesels-DCC-Sound-Reflex/253470999735 or one of these Zimo LS26X20X08-1W from here http://www.youchoos.co.uk/Index-Shop.php?L1=Speakers The second one will be louder than the first but the first will have more bass Paul
cravensdmufan
When fitting TTS into 21 pin locos I have been using TCS 1358 adapters. You have to solder the wires onto the tabs but easy enough if you have a small tip on an 18w iron. Here's one I did the other day:
RMweb Gold russ p Posted March 11, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 11, 2018 I've ordered one off eBay Thanks for the link
cravensdmufan
I've ordered one off eBay Thanks for the link Russ, don't know how much you paid, but I got a pack of 5 from Digitrains about £20. I reckoned £4 per loco was good value if you've got a few to do. Edit: Sorry! Just checked and Digitrains now show "out of stock" but I'm sure Jeremy would order for you if you needed more. RMweb Gold russ p Posted March 11, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted March 11, 2018 If that slightly smaller one allows me to keep the fans I'd prefer it
Paul-H
I have had quite a few different ones from Richards eBay page, always a good quick hastle free service with good prices as well. Paul Edited March 12, 2018 by Paul-H 1

JST
Having followed this thread I fitted TTS sound to my Bachman Class 47 using an adaptor. It all fitted and worked but the results were very disappointing. Firstly the sound was not good (somewhat distorted) and secondly the loco ran really rough and jerky. I refitted the Hattons 21 pin decoder and the loco ran perfectly again. I have a Hornby Castle fitted with TTS sound and it sounds good. I wonder if I did anything wrong or maybe TTS and the Bachman loco are not suited to each other.

I wonder if I did anything wrong or maybe TTS and the Bachman loco are not suited to each other. You have to realise that TTS decoders were intended for the Hornby models of the specific prototype and as such are optimised for these models. The decoders have quite a few parameters which can be used to 'tune' them to a different model's motor characteristics. You will need to invest a litle time in changing CVs to get the best from TTS in non-Hornby models. There's plenty of advice available on here on how to get acceptable performance from TTS in other manufacturer's products. The sound problem has two sources in my view. The volume is set too high as a default, and the speaker is, well what shall we say, budget price and quality. Fit a good speaker and turn the volume down for improved results. RAF96
CV150 set at value 1 seems to be a better setting for baccy motors.
RAF96
Note that CVs 151 and 152 modify the motor PID characteristics when CV150 is set at value 0. If CV150 is set at value 1 then CVs 153 and 154 apply. Rob
STRAT'71
Hi You could try one of these https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20x30-Bass-Speaker-Compact-Fits-Inside-Most-Bachmann-Diesels-DCC-Sound-Reflex/253470999735 or one of these Zimo LS26X20X08-1W from here http://www.youchoos.co.uk/Index-Shop.php?L1=Speakers The second one will be louder than the first but the first will have more bass Paul Will the first one fit under the latest Bachmann Class 37 fan assembly? The second one doesn't.
Paul-H
I think the first one does but it's quite tight under the 37's fan, I will be playing with my 37 over the weekend and have a number of different speakers to try, will post here if I finds decent sounding one that fits with the fan in place, also doing a deltic as I don't like chopping my models about to fit speakers in the fuel tanks that everyone else recommends. kevo
thanks richard ile give that a try . i had putt the same decoder tts class 31 in one of my irish locos class 141 and it was fine .even tho its the total wrong engine type it kind of didnt sound out of place and the tts decoders are a hell of a lot cheaper than other makes
cravensdmufan
You might just get it under, otherwise an iPhone speaker (which I can supply) will go easily. Both speakers are much thinner than the Zimo one mentioned Richard I have fitted a number of TTS decoders into Bachmann locos and have adusted CVs to get smooth running in all of them. So for the price I'm very happy! But I always had the ongoing problem that I find them too loud - particularly in the Class 47. I have reduced the overall sound by setting CV182 to the minimum of 1 but still very loud for my small railway room! I have tried all sorts of different speakers for improved sound which are great. I put a Zimo speaker in one tonight and it sounded fabulous but it was booming out! My solution up till now is to physically muffle the speaker with foam or piece of kitchen roll (very Heath Robinson!) but of course that is not ideal as it spoils the sound. My question is - if I wire two of my smallest speakers (say Richard's small iPhone or sugar cubes) together would that help reduce the volume? If so, do I wire in series or parallel? Would like advice please - I could just go ahead and experiment myself but am afraid of blowing the decoder! Thanks.
cravensdmufan
If you wire them in series you will be left with a 16 ohm speaker which would be quieter Richard Thanks Richard! That's exactly what I wanted to know. I'll give that a try and report back on here tomorrow. Vivian
