Sir TophamHatt
Just wondering whether it's worth me sending a loco in for a service. At the moment, I can't really run my Standard Class 4MT as I snapped the speedo cable, despite detaching it from what I thought I needed to when installing a decoder. Then, in my haste, I broke out the socket and hard-wired the decoder (I don't think the box says DCC ready), so not sure if they'd even consider it for a repair of this bit? £30 is a little steep for such a tiny piece :/ Edited February 14, 2018 by anotheruser
JSpencer
If you pick up a new speedo, that would cost just a few quid. Call Bachmann first and ask them if they have one. I don't think sending a model in for service will fix broken parts. Also the fact that you hardwired a decoder probably means they cannot service it anymore anyway - it is not like they can unplug your decoder to see how it runs under analogue. If they don't have a part, glue a very fin wire on the back of the cable (the Bachmann speedo cable looks overscale to me - so easy to hide) and glue it together. truffy
the fact that you hardwired a decoder probably means they cannot service it anymore anyway Almost certainly true: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/7801-Bachmann-sparesservice-dept/?p=3035796
RMweb Premium Chamby Posted February 14, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 14, 2018 Bachmann service dept. is also where some of the returns end up. Some of these are broken for spares, it would seem. If you email the service team re: the parts you want (pics help) they will quote you for replacements. I found them very helpful, and knowledgeable about the products. I needed some replacement parts for a damaged Midland Pullman from them. It was well out of warranty... I spoke to them on Friday afternoon, sent them an email over the weekend, got a return email with costings early on Monday morning, called them straight back and arranged payment, the parts arrived in the post today. I am both very pleased, and impressed!
RMweb Gold adb968008 Posted February 15, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 15, 2018 (edited) The service includes the first £7.50 of parts, though I’ve never had to use that service myself. Ive found the spares team very good to deal within you describe the issue, they will list the spares you need by email, pay by phone they arrive within a few days. Butler Henderson
Just wondering whether it's worth me sending a loco in for a service. At the moment, I can't really run my Standard Class 4MT as I snapped the speedo cable Should be possible to refit in a manner that makes it look okay without it physically being connected to the axle. I deliberately broke the speedo on a Standard 4 tank as it was causing the loco to have a bouncy motion.
RMweb Gold adb968008 Posted February 15, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 15, 2018 (edited) you could fit a Hornby speedo 4MT cable. it looks better, slimmer and fits on the nut ok. Just glue the end onto the inside of the original plastic nub on the body. Edited February 15, 2018 by adb968008
Sir TophamHatt
To bring this to a conclusion: Telephoned and spoke to a nice lady who sorted me out the part - £2. Didn't realise the original was attached to another part of the train, but fitted the new one and glued it. Might need another coating of glue to ensure a good fit - just hope it sticks! EDIT: It didn't stick Will just run the loco without it. Thanks all Edited February 20, 2018 by Sir TophamHatt
