caradoc
A long time ago you could buy (in Glasgow) a postcard depicting the 'best thing in Edinburgh' which was.......the train to Glasgow ! That image could be used for several of the cities to be served by Scotrail's HSTs.....

luckymucklebackit
I would have thought that the best depictions of the smaller cities would have been Dundee - famous for Jam, Jute and Journalism, out of those. the statues of Desperate Dan or Minnie the Minx would be most appropriate Aberdeen - Oil Capital of Scotland, so an Oil Rig is the no-brainer (although some in Glasgow would say a Sheep) Inverness - Nessie of course Perth - Probably the city that most lacks a clear identifying feature so what they did was about the best they could Stirling - they got that right, the Wallace Monument. I still think that the HST power cars should be named after their predecessors that were similarly drafted in - The A4s! Jim Incidentally - I wonder what Stagecoach buses think of this livery feature, they did something very similar first https://cbwmagazine.com/stagecoach-panoramas-enter-service-on-route-x76/ Edited October 26, 2018 by luckymucklebackit
'CHARD
Oddly last weeks move saw most of the First Group owned 409XX TRFBs heading off lease first - I'd have thought they would have kept those running for longer than the leased ones. It's more likely to be due to the next major exam required on the individual coaches. If the First coaches are due new wheelsets or a bogie swap for example, it will be more cost effective to stand these down and carry on with the conventional lease for the others. black and decker boy
I’ve read elsewhere that First have (or are to) swapped a number of their buffets for Porterbrook trailers which they can then use in the 2+4 sets. Perhaps buffets offer a wider range of future uses such as the Freight HST concept? Edited October 26, 2018 by black and decker boy

Wild Boar Fell
Hull Trains are apparently to get 2x Short HST sets to cover the Adelantes. 1 Duty and 1 Standby, to last until the 802s are on the scene.
black and decker boy
Plug or sliding makes no difference if Wabtec haven’t got another 24 or so trailers nearing completion that can be handed over and in service in 6 weeks time. Is it definately a December change given Grayling's pause of many other timetable changes in December ? Can Scotrail get by with some slam door HSTs, and replace them on a set by set basis as refurbed sets appear from Donny ? Is there enough oomph in the 2+4s to accelerate against delayed station calls due to slam doors ? Clearly Wabtec are very late, with only the second of five XC sets going in, and another ten sets of four for GWR still to outshop. totally

Clearly Wabtec are very late, with only the second of five XC sets going in, and another ten sets of four for GWR still to outshop. totally The December timetable is different, certainly the calling are though timings are still based on 170s. Internal transport in Scotland is entirely devolved and under the remit of Holyrood so nothing to do with Grayling. Well that is the plan, to get by in the meantime and replace with refurbished sets when possible. A 2+9 can match, even better a 170 to 100mph, so a 2+4 definitely can. The LNER HSTs are typically booked for 3 minutes dwell at larger stations such as Stirling and Perth, it appears that dwells of 2-3 minutes are timetabled for the ScotRail services from December, presumably to guard against the longer dwell of slam-door sets. clachnaharry
This is somewhat surprising! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-46028596 Do the HSTs run by LNER to Aberdeen and Inverness have holding tanks?
luckymucklebackit
No, but no agreement was put in place between the RMT and LNER, or any railtour operator using Mk1s for that matter (e.g. the Jacobite), the point that they are making is that Scotrail is currently all retention tanks, but are going back to direct effluent discharge (for a while) Jim

RMweb Premium Dava Posted October 30, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 30, 2018 This may indicate the refurb of the Mk3s at Wabtec Doncaster, including fitting waste tanks and sliding power doors, is proving more problematic and taking longer than expected. Brush Wabtec at Loughborough is able to turn out the refurbed power cars on schedule. Dava
