RMweb Premium melmerby Posted December 7, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 7, 2017 Hi all What colour would the steel deck of the traversers at Birmingham Moor St been in GWR days? They consist of rivetted chequer plates: http://www.warwickshirerailways.com/gwr/moorstreet/gwrms1735.jpg Cheers Keith

I don't think it would be light or dark stone, as the locos will drip oil on it and probably some ash as well, it will also get scuffed by crews etc. walking on it. Just my thoughts, I have no info to back it up.
spud
Hi, They would have been red-oxide undercoat and black top coat when new, but would rapidly have weathered to rusty brown with oily residue and puddles of oily water!
