Vepslam3417
So it all started on 12 September. I'm currently building a South Western Division layout, in the early days of SWT. Station has been sorted, and comprises of NSE signage with the SWT brand gently easing in. Stock so far is an NSE 4 CEP, which incidentally I've painted SWT on the other side (two units for the price of one!) but I knew I'd need a 455. The picture shows the Class 150s by Bachmann, ready for the chop.
Vepslam3417
The next step was to strip everything from the DMUs. This is relatively easy as Bachmann do not use the toughest glue to hold the underframe components. Quickly realised many bits and bobs could be reused for the motor coach. Some adaption required, but it gives a good representation of the 455 underframe. The next step was to convert one of the 150 driving trailers into a 455 motor coach. I chose to entirely cut and shut this vehicle rather than have 3 out of 4 coaches altered. 1 out of 2 150 coaches in the set doesn't require windows being altered. I therefore kept these as the two driving trailers.
Vepslam3417
On Day 3, I built up the 508 trailer using a fab new kit found on eBay. Once assembled, I filled the motor coach and to my surprise it turned out nicely. Then it was time to prime.
Vepslam3417
Day 4 saw the application of NSE starting. Careful studying of this complex livery is required, and I'd say it's best to practice. I am slowly getting there with modelling and it's only my 3rd paint job so it's not the best, but after 8 long hours, the 455 was being born!
Vepslam3417
Progression continued, and over the next couple of days, all 4 coaches had been painted. It was then time to reassemble the glazing. Thanks to Bachmann's high quality products, this was very easy, and I only chipped a bit of paint here and there. Very much like the real 455's in their later NSE years.
Vepslam3417
Detailing came next. On Day 7-8 I added transfers and fashioned up some steps and associated equipment for the front of the unit cabs. Jumper cables were pinched and played around with courtesy of a redundant Hornby 73. Oh and a driver was added!
Vepslam3417
The classic orange and yellow interiors just needed to be represented, so along with some painted blue seats, and some passengers standing and sitting, the interior was starting to resemble an off peak 455/7.
Vepslam3417
And there you have it, ready for testing.

timbowilts
Although I model the South Wales valleys I'm impressed. Very creative cross fertilisation, I would never have thought of being able to turn a 150 into a 455 Tim T
SRman
That's brilliant, Vepslam. Now, are you taking orders? Edited October 1, 2017 by SRman
kintbury jon
Super work. I did a similar thing a few years ago but created a 455/9. Your other EMUs look great too! Edited September 30, 2017 by kintbury jon
eastwestdivide
... Oh and a driver was added!IMG_6079.JPG A driver by the name of Shirley?! Super stuff, especially the line-up in post 9. You might almost say a slam-dunk.

Kelly
Looking great. The 508 parts on eBay are being produced by a DEMU member, and it is planned that all parts to make 507/508/313/314/315 will be made available over time. So far I've only got a solitary cab, not having funds to get the rest yet. However I've plans for a 508 unit, a 313 power car (to go with a planned 457 unit, to make it into 316999 rather than 457001) and a T7 set (translators, made with end cars from 508s). piranha230
Nice to see a class 455 centre coach built from one of my newly launched class 507,508,313,314,315 emu kits in 00 scale, I also see you have built the class 442 from one of my cab ends, your emu fleet looks really nice, the refurbished 4-ceps look very impressive, its a shame some of the Rtr manufacturers don't do many emu's I am sure they would sell ok. RMweb Premium Northmoor Posted October 2, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 2, 2017 Day 4 saw the application of NSE starting. Careful studying of this complex livery is required, and I'd say it's best to practice. I am slowly getting there with modelling and it's only my 3rd paint job so it's not the best, but after 8 long hours, the 455 was being born! That's only your THIRD paint job? If I'd got to that standard by my Thirtieth I'd be pleased. As a daily SWT (sorry, SWR now) commuter, nice to see something so common, but unfashionable, being modelled so well. Vepslam3417
Latest updates. The gangways have been weathered and the cab fronts made to look a little less clean and plastic. In addition, I have painted the door indicator lights to all coaches, and applied door warning transfers above the buttons.
Vepslam3417
Latest pictures. All transfers applied.
