BG John
Slow? Chaz is using a 0.6 RPM version of the motor on the Furness Valley Railroad!
davetheroad
Calculate Calculate A 65 foot turntable rotating at a speed of 1 mph at the edge would take about 30 seconds to rotate 360 degrees ????? If so that motor might be just what is needed. edit just looked at a video of the one at York railway museum. About 90 seconds rotation. Add a 3:1 reduction gear for authentic operation ? RMweb Gold Regularity Posted September 17, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 17, 2017 Or run it at 4v or so - using a single LiPo to power it?
DCB
Could be fantastic for a fine scale 0-4-0, 2 rpm and 60:1 Romford gears should produce almost imperceptibly slow slow running for the ultimate slow running experience.
peter220950
We've just used one on our O gauge Club layout, geared down with toothed belt and pulleys, and fitted with a small speed controller, and very good they are too, with loads of torque. It has solved the problem of getting anything to move a Heljan diesel. Guest
One option might be to try a servo, the one's used in radio control models, although they are only 5 volts and require electronics to operate, the circuit board can be removed leaving you with an enclosed motor and gearbox with lots of torque. Another option might be to modify a tortoise point motor, mechanically remove the end stops. Just food for thought.

I haven't had the chance to use them yet - but they are certainly very powerful and well-built. Regards, John Isherwood.

That why the GWR didn't like vacuum turntables, too slow, too complicated, Minehead turns much faster than that with a couple of burly Somerset lads pushing not sitting back on their padded seats like those cosseted LNER types. BlackRat
Got mine a few weeks ago, super little motor and gearbox. Thanks for the excellent tip! All I need to do now is to scratch up a turntable,e to go with it! Edited December 14, 2017 by BlackRat
shortliner
Like I said before - really glad the info was useful - when I come across things that may be useful to other modellers, I try to pass them on.
DCB
Plumbers use similar but 240 volt motor gearbox units for motor valves. A friend gave me some dead motor valves with lots of lovely gears in, big ones useful for 00 scenery such as breakdown crane gears and small brass ones ideal for 00 gear trains.
