I'm suggesting that some of the statements (on various topics) made by people that should know better are nonsense.

Importantly from BOTH SIDES. If you discount the 10% of claims at the extreme ends, you get somewhere near the truth!

In the media today, we have had the initial (I say initial, because there is no doubt an appeal is coming up) order for Alex Jones to cough up almost $US1 Billion in damages. Now if the likes of him had been ignored (as a loony, I suggest), the world would be a better place.

Australian media tends to use " Number of Olympic Swimming Pools" to give an idea of how big something is, while UK readers may be more familiar with their medias "Height  of   Double Decker Buses" measuring scale. A handy conversion tool to use in stories like this is to remember is that "1 Olympic Swimming Pool" is equivalent to the height of  8.342333 "double decker buses".

Must not forget the area of Wales….😉

While the Australian Southeast has had monstrously wet La Niña Spring, here in the Pacific Northwest we have had our hottest* August and September, and will likely have our hottest and driest October.  We have not had a soaking rain since the first week of July.

* Based on average temperature.

Thankfully we had a wetter than average La Niña Spring which, for the summer, took us out of any drought status. With the exceptionally long dry spell (it usually starts to rain frequently in September) we are back in an "abnormally dry" drought condition.

Even in my limited sphere of travels earlier this year (with various lockdowns and restrictions), we managed to get to Echuca on the Victoria/New South Wales border in January and June, staying with friends on the outskirts. Two photos showing the contrast between January when it was still very dry, and June after consistent rain: these are all of the same location behind our friend's back garden.

How many Belgium's is that?

For some reason I read that as “How many Belgians?” 🤦‍♂️

In other news Dr. SWMBO reports that she is cut off, safely above the rising waters but with no road open to leave. She is due to leave on Sunday and is expected back here early on Monday morning …..

It's likely much shorter than that. The record keeping in question might only be since the official reporting location was moved to the airport in 1938 from locations closer to downtown.

Even failing that, no measurement records exist until 1870. Measurements apparently began in 1858, but were not preserved.

The trend however is pretty clear. We have already had more days over 100°F in the 20's than in the 10's.

The invention of cameras predate that and there is plenty of evidence that things like glaciers have been shrinking for a long time.

Thermometers predate photography by around 200 years. But, you are right that global temperatures have been rising since the middle of the Little Ice Age around 1670.

A wide-angle view looking towards that same paddock I showed before with the kangaroos, as it was a day ago. Scary stuff for our friends (they sent the photo). The Campaspe River runs in a wide loop around the back end of that paddock.

What is not realised by most, even in Australia, is how long it takes for the water to flow down the Murray-Darling River. Here is an article on how South Australia is preparing for the floods, due to come through in early DECEMBER! This is from rain having already fallen.

The influence of American culture/information is getting a little out of hand!

https://au.yahoo.com/news/aussie-girls-life-threatening-snake-mistake-video-053731575.html

There was a similarly dim kid at school who found a  baby Brown snake, mistook it for I cant imagine or remember what,   and kept it  in an open-topped  fish tank in his bedroom before his dad saw it and freaked out.

For the record, Australia has had 4 Prime Ministers with shorter terms than Liz Truss. Frank Forde holds the record of 8 days. Although to be fair, he was caretaker after John Curtin died in office.

Do you still have the revolving door on the prime ministers office?

Yes, but you guys can borrow it for your Prime Ministers. It'll look great at the front of No. 10. 🤣

We haven't changed PM since May! And this one is looking like he won't be leaving for a while.
