Johann Marsbar Posted August 23, 2020 Share Posted August 23, 2020 The sort of thing you could find lurking in the foliage when visiting bus operators premises 35+ years ago....... This (Seddon, from memory) coach was photographed at one of Fosdikes of Bramfield (Suffolk) "depots" back in September 1983. Nothing to do with Politics, despite the destination blind, it was formerly the vehicle used to transport the Ted Heath Band around, and carried the registration 1 BMH (as in Band Master Heath) ! Johann Marsbar Posted August 31, 2020 Share Posted August 31, 2020 I managed a trip to Beamish the weekend before "Lockdown" back in March, actually as a replacement for a trip to New Jersey which was aborted a couple of days before I was due to fly out! The Northern "Daimler" replica was the bus in use on that occasion, which is quite a good representation as replica vehicles go... A superbly restored (genuine!) Northern single decker was in the bus depot..... along with a Darlington Corporation Daimler..... Another replica vehicle was parked outside in a yard, though this one doesn't quite look "the part" to my eyes - It appears to be an attempt at an LGOC B Type! Not sure if that is painted in South Shields Corporation livery? I think I know why it 'looks' wrong. (I'm not saying it is, they may have rebuilt some to look like that). The LGOC B type had an open cab, that one has been rebuilt with a windscreen & enclosed cab. It paid us a visit back in December 1984 as we used to use Michelin tyres on contract at the time. A Seddon it was, a Mk11 dating from 1954 with Duple (Elizabethan I think it is) bodywork which was supplied new to the band with only 22 seats and additional luggage space, to accommodate the instruments I imagine. 2 2 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

A group of us were in London to travel on the last RM's on the 25 before they were replaced by Titans. In the evening we wandered up to GM for a look around. The basement often contained some interesting stuff and in its day that included the Optare City Pacers and other minibuses used on the early Central Area minibus routes. It also included some coaches on hire to National Express. Despite being very tricky to get into it was usually worth the effort. Now 32 feet long its extra bay was donated by RM458.This was the first of ten such conversions.
