RMweb Premium Indomitable026 Posted June 23, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 23, 2013 Does the oily fuel tank area also need lightening ? The bogies seem to stand out more. I was trying not to over do it. Fuel tanks are generally black and oily. I'll see what they all look like on the layout in proper lighting conditions (they looked ok when I was spraying them outside)
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted June 23, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 23, 2013 I can understand them being black and oily near the filler, and where the fuel has been streamed down the sides of the tanks, but I'd have thought above the filler and where the oil hadn't reached, it would be a similar dusty brown like the bogies ( which would also have oily patches near/on the springs). How did you add the brown ? Airbrush or powders ?
RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted June 23, 2013 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 23, 2013 I've had a go at toning down the bogie colours today on the 37 fleet with a light dirty tan colour. They were too dark before. DSC_0814.jpg DSC_0815.jpg DSC_0816.jpg Hoping this is better, it looks it to me. Thats it now, they'll be out of loading gauge if I paint them anymore..... They look better.

RMweb Premium Indomitable026 Posted June 23, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 23, 2013 Stubbbzie, i think its because i'm putting too much light from the side for the photo. If I move the light over the top it looks like this;
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted June 23, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 23, 2013 Ahhhh, I see. Lighting is all important, as you said it's how they appear on the layout that's the real decider. Will these be on BCB as well ( if it gets a time-shift session ) ?

I think a pair of 'Siphons' on the Burngullow - Irvine 'Silver Bullet' wouldn't go a miss. There's been worse on the layout......
yorkie_pudd
I think the 37`s weathering looks ace giving a true well maintained fleet with busy working lifes look.
RMweb Gold griffgriff Posted June 23, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 23, 2013 That's not a 50 it's a vacuum cleaner. (Sorry) P That's an oxymoron! You can't have vacuum and cleaner in the same phrase when referring to 50's, you can however have 'Dirty + Log'! Great weathering though

RMweb Gold griffgriff Posted June 23, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 23, 2013 Vacuum and Fitter? Now they're seen together quite often..... Fitter could imply good health how about 'Fitters' because you might need more than one
RMweb Premium Indomitable026 Posted June 23, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 23, 2013 Fitter could imply good health how about 'Fitters' because you might need more than one and you often needed more than one 50.... or in the case of table 145, anything going - literally Often wondered about doing a layout based on the very last days of the 50's east of Exeter. Name? 'Nightmare on Table 145' Not my idea but knicked off a railscene video - yes video
RMweb Premium Indomitable026 Posted June 23, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 23, 2013 There's one or two good colour shots on this class 37 thread, showing different chassis weathering http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/72757-class-37-photos/
RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted June 23, 2013 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted June 23, 2013 D, are you sure those battery boxes are light enough? Just remember that you can't have two locos the same - I need some way of working out which is which for 10' away. It's either that or painting numbers on the roof! The ones we run will all be different colours. Its not painting by numbers, but operating by colours. RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted June 23, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 23, 2013 exciting new operating position. Have you replaced that rather dented foot stool Chris had at Warley then. He must have had his wallet on him.

He must have had his wallet on him. Which one? Most things are dented through miss use/ over eating and drinking. I'm contemplating two new fiddle yards which completely change the way the layout operates and where people stand - and more importantly, interact with the public Having watched how we operated 'Black Country Blues' for its first couple of shows, it changed my thinking a little. (not hard as i'm easily distracted.) What was i saying - oh yes - loco colours.....
