Not sure what's going on in his part of Cornwall at the moment, Bob. Might be some kind of Mazey Day, or Maisie Day, who knows? In all seriousness, I suspect he may be suffering from Peckett withdrawal symptoms, which normally only affects those who have withdrawn their Pecketts from service too early. In Stubby's case, he is probably affected by the rarer form of the condition, whereby you consider buying a Peckett but change your mind at the last minute. 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post Captain Kernow Posted July 14, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 14, 2019 Coming soon to Bethesda Sidings: I've long been an admirer of Tom Foster's work and when he announced that he was starting up a weathering business, I thought I'd put a couple of locos his way. This not only saves me time by not having to do this myself, but it also ensures that I get a very fine job done. He's working on 2538, my Dean Goods today, but isn't D6331 looking good? Many thanks, Tom, excellent work! (Photos from Tom Foster) 15 1 1 9

RMweb Gold Popular Post Captain Kernow Posted July 15, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 15, 2019 Also coming soon to 'Bethesda Sidings': This is the other loco weathered by Tom Foster and another lovely job completed. In this case, Tom has used a photo of 2538 at Welshpool as a reference. The photo is in 'On Cambrian Lines' (Ian Allan). 17 1 8

RMweb Gold Popular Post Captain Kernow Posted August 7, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 7, 2019 Well, the 14XX for 'Bethesda Sidings' is now complete, the weathering having been completed earlier this week, as per my recent blog entry: I've also been giving the Dean Goods another few hours running in on my circle of Lima set track and I feel that it has just about improved sufficiently to stave off the prospect of a new chassis for the moment. I have, however, ordered the necessary components for an etched chassis, just to make it very clear that I'll not have any more nonsense. 18

RMweb Gold Ramblin Rich Posted August 8, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 8, 2019 That's how to make things work, put the fear of 'the captain' into them! Probably should be a picture of a cat o' nine tails there....
RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted August 21, 2019 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 21, 2019 (edited) No photos yet, but I have now started ballasting the layout. Very time-consuming, each sleeper bay is 'painted' with PVA and the ballast mix (or in some parts of the layout, ash) is sprinkled on and the residue removed once the glue has dried. HI Time consuming maybe but the end result is superb...... Having previously seen your description of your method & tried it I would say it gives the best result...... But possibly not for a large layout as it would take forever which is why I've reverted to other methods..... Keep up the good work Enjoying your progress Cheers Bill 1

How deep it the ballast? If the only glue you use is 'painted' on first, it doesn't sound very thick.
