RMweb Gold Donw Posted April 30, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 30, 2017 I see you are of the TAG school of Loco Livery more workday than tarted up with bling and Sunday best. Much more suited to an industrial line Don
Owd Bob
Not quite sure what TAG stands for Don but yes! i do like my stuff to look as though they work and have'nt just come out of a display cabinet This one will be a bit cleaner than most of my loco's though. I drilled out the holes for the lamp bracket and tools brackets and then soldered 1/16th copper rivets on the inside of the cab which i then filed and sanded down.....not quite flush or very neat but they are solid and who can see them in there! I also soldered a 'U' shaped rail both on the top and bottom to give the thin sheet a bit more strength. The cab back will be held on by an extra set of hand rail knobs on either side, i was just one handrail knob short but i'll nick that off my other yet to arrive loco' later this week. I'll try and start to paint it up today.

Narrow Minded
I'm pretty sure that "Grindling Spode" was a character created by Peter Jones (of Compton Down fame) and I'd certainly like to see "the collected works" !

Jongudmund
Bob, thanks for the sparkley photos before the bridge got the paint job. It looks really good now but I did enjoy seeing the sequins shine!
RMweb Gold vjoneslong Posted May 2, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 2, 2017 Love the cab back Pinzer, and nice paint job with the cab. Looking alot better already. Have you steamed her yet?
Owd Bob
No not steamed her yet Lads, as i need more bits and bobs to do that... water, gas, and new batteries being the main things No rush! i've waited long enough, so no harm in waiting for a few more weeks. i removed the buffer beams and drilled out for some proper rivets, a ten pence piece was drawn around to form a half circle cut out at the buffer beam corners ...opposite to what they are now. Two pieces of metal 22 gauge sheet were cut to size to make running boards...bending and cutting these to size should be really fun today...Not! RMweb Gold vjoneslong Posted May 2, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 2, 2017 Excellent stuff Pinzer. Indeed, no rush to steam her, and we are all really looking forward to seeing her once you have worked your magic. Proper rivets eh? PHOWAR!
Owd Bob
Thanks Idris i've waited ten years so no use rushing things now As i have already built the cab, buffers and saddle tank for the other loco' i've not much to do on it when it arrives, so i thought i'd give 'Bess' the same 'Bling' treatment, i'll always try and make my own bits and bobs before buying it! I've not much in the specialist tools dept' but enough to muddle through, like my Aldi Drill stand, bench grinder and 4" disc cutter...all bought cheaply but the quality and what they can do for the money is amazing! A few hours later and i've got things ready for the tea tray fettlin' this eve'. I've bent the running boards in the old vice, then drilled out the area on them that needs cutting out to make room for the linkages etc and then i cut the corners off the buffers....so plenty of filing to do later.

RMweb Gold Donw Posted May 2, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 2, 2017 (edited) Bob here is Tag driving his coal fired edrig or at least Rob Bennets interpretation of him Don err picked up wrong picture this is the one I intended Both taken on Paul James layout. Tag himself was around would occasionally when the loco was easy to access top up water and coal then leave it to carry on running very relaxed. Owd Bob
I have gone back to square one with the cab back as the Gloss Black paint i bought had moisture in it and made a very poor job and was full of lumps & bubbles, so it's all been stripped back down to bare metal. The good news is that my other loco' has just arrived, i'll run this as is until; i'm done with the Jack rebuild.
