RMweb Gold Mr.S.corn78 Posted January 15, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 15, 2023 Hi all, So its been a couple of months since the last outing and thought as its only 132 days till we exhibit at Railex 2023, we thought it was time to post up some of the photos of the layout and some of the latest editions to the stock roster. RMweb Gold Popular Post Mr.S.corn78 Posted February 19, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 19, 2023 Hi all, So the days are steadly counting down to Railex (only 97!!) and there is plenty going on in the background and there will hopefully be another couple of new items of rolling stock on the layout for the show. It is also about time another photo was posted up. The southern portal of Catesby Tunnel.
43110andyb
As the exhibition nears the fiddle yard roads have been reviewed! Current services added to spreadsheet and just a matter of the last few services to allocate roads to. 2 2

RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted November 10, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 10, 2023 Now I know that I might just have a go at getting there, but, could you not have even just one loco with a proper number on it?, pretty please!! All my locos where blue though! Quick tip if you are unaware, if you change the comma before 08768 to an apostrophe it'll show the numbers only, works with any leading zero. 1

The spreadsheet is on a shared drive so each owner can update as required. The colour coding is for who is the owner and is replicated over the other 6 pages for coaching stock/revenue freight/NPCCS/Departmental/DMU (I edited screen shot down to remove personal details and other columns that weren’t relevant to the post).

RMweb Gold Mr.S.corn78 Posted February 8 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 8 Hi All, So with a slight change to the previously advestised program we won't be exhibiting at Ally Pally, but in its place we are pleased to announce that we will be attending the 2024 Darlington exhibition on the 14th and 15th September at the Oakleaf sports complex at Newton Aycliffe We will (hopefully) have a few new additions to the stock roster and may be a few other surprises for the weekend. This is closely followed by the Great Electric Train show in October. With only just over 6 months till the first outing for 2024 for the layout (we are at several other shows with other layouts and demos between now and then), we best get cracking on the list of jobs. Now where is the chisel and hammer!! 3

Rugby, Brackley and then Aylesbury would have been the stopping pattern of a semi-fast I reckon. Woodford Halse would have gone too. I hate to say it, but to capture the GC in straitened times, weathering the Serpell Report, would have to feature a station devoid of buildings, with the platform edges removed and rounded off, and the access from the road bridge bricked up. Retaining the station in any 'open' capacity would not be at all convincing. I visited the model railway club at Woodford Halse with our club not so long ago. They've got a great layout that spans three rooms. I went and took a look at whats left of the station. Not a lot but you can see the bridges and the bricked up entrance. And on some aerial pictures you can see where the turning 'wye' for the loco shed was. 2
43110andyb
One of the great parts of doing this project was the speculation of what would/should have been or would have actually happened if the line had stayed open! Those decisions had to be made by ourselves as a group (with or without the blessings of many opinions on both this and other forums) taking into consideration operational features of the layout and modifications needed to the layout that we inherited! Researching train headcodes and formations and flows using old timetables has also opened up a whole new world beyond model railways!
dave75
Fabulous layout. There's a chap who produced a set of GC timetables based on an additional fleet of deltics , it's a interesting read I think I picked a copy up on eBay.

One of our group has also picked up a copy and we used it to look into some headcodes etc.
43110andyb
With the fantastic news that we will be attending our home show this September (Darlington MRS) we are having a working weekend to fettle some issues from the last show and to upgrade the fiddle yard DCC panel connections! Photos from and during the weekend will hopefully follow! Here is another from the archive while you wait!- Edited March 12 by 43110andyb Soelling 10
43110andyb
Working weekend a great success, layout wiring upgraded to the fiddle yard panel and getting the Ironstone branch working for redundant ballast workings just some of the jobs on the list! 12
fezza
Really looking forward to seeing this at exhibitions again. Probably my favourite on the circuit as I love the idea the GC might have survived. I wonder if Charwelton might have been reopened as "Daventry Parkway" in the mid 1980s had the London Extension survived? In my own enthusiastic but rather crude N gauge reimagining of the GC post 1990 I had 170s running to Leicester so an extra stop between Rugby and Brackley wouldn't have been unreasonable. In the 1980s Network SouthEast may have reached Leicester Central to preserve some stopping services - it reached Peterborough and Northampton IRL of course. A Leicester Central - Marylebone Network Express NSE service might just have ended up being the last stamping ground of the 50s or 47/7s. You can have a lot of fun with this. It might be time to buy some red paint! 2

An interesting thought about Daventry Parkway! Ps- please don’t mention class 50’s as we have enough trouble keeping them off running in the 80’s 😂😂 (on-going in house joke). 43110andyb
Next on the work bench - this will replace the current class 37 loco allocated to the Eastleigh to Tees Yard 6E30 Speedlink service.
