RMweb Gold Mr.S.corn78 Posted June 9, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 9, 2017 Hi All, So to reach the milestone of 100 post on the thread and cause its Friday, here is a a quick video of the aim that we are heading towards Due to the layout wiring we could only run it on DC whilst we did the testing hence the speed of the loco as the controller being used was struggling to power the whole layout. But we still had fun

Popular Post DaveC46026
So work has started on the latest board to arrive back in the workshop and the scenics are taking place! 3 trees have been replaced or refurbished and a new hedgerow sits where a painted one once sat! Next up will be the signalling and track infrastructure with cable troughing point rodding and signal wires to go in! Hope you're enjoying it!

43110andyb
No work to report over the summer break but we have now started the great re-wire to DCC!!! A before and after shot below, work completed to remove all common return loops (to be replaced by individual droppers to bus-bars), and remaining feeds separated to Up & Dn line circuits as we are splitting layout into several power districts to avoid short circuits and power drops.

woodenhead
You're clearly doing it wrong because DCC is just two wires.

Lowlander
Hi The joys of wiring. It will be worth it though. I find once you start doing dcc, especially sound, there is no going back. Stephen Edited September 22, 2017 by ayrmrg

43110andyb
Quick update on work- 7 of the 19 boards are now fully prepped for bus-bar fitting, points have had to be separated from the common return (common return fed track feeds/points/signals) and are going to be controlled via the original panel and fiddle yard route matrix. Another task that has been started is a database of stock- starting with revenue freight a first draft has been started and I have added a screen shot of the initial count below. Only a few more rakes required to fill the expansive fiddle yard!!!
43110andyb
A bit of a milestone reached today as 50% of the wiring prep is complete! Dropper wires fitted, insulated fiddle yard circuits bridged out and point frogs isolated and tested through the existing micro-switches for frog switching. Work has taken around 35 hours to complete with plenty more work to do!!!! Picture below is of one of the point matrix boards (there is one either end of the fiddle yard for route setting (we are not touching these at the moment so the work has been to remove the common return wires that feed the track).
43110andyb
A few more pics of the scenery overhaul from Dave- back scene repainted and work undertaken on the trees. The line pictured leaving the main board was originally the iron stone spur but we are going to have its future/80's use as a ballast spoil tip- loaded Grampus or alike arriving and empties leaving.

First station board on the work bench- platform stripped, back scene painted and the start of the yard looking like it might during the mid 80's.
43110andyb
Also a stock update as I managed a mornings work on two carflats I received for Christmas! With the addition of a some suitable period cars and maybe a few more flats the start of one of many trains we will need to stock the layout. A pic of the first flat half way through weathering on the work bench-
