RMweb Gold phil_sutters Posted August 15, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 15, 2019 One from Dad - I got in a terrible tangle with the numbers, companies and classes at one point. I hope that I have uploaded the correct version of this photo, which is, for all that, one of my favorite photos from Dad's albums. More refills please.

Trev52A
9001 gets a top-up (of water?) at Newcastle Central Station on 20th May 1970 Any suggestions, please? Trevor Subsequent posts have explained that it is filling the water tank for the steam-heating boiler. - Thanks to TheSignalEngineer and Rugd1022 Edited August 16, 2019 by Trev52A Update
RMweb Gold TheSignalEngineer Posted August 15, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 15, 2019 There's mention here https://www.lner.info/forums/viewtopic.php?t=10941 of filling the water tank of Deltics at Newcastle. The boiler itself was between the two engines. 1

Trevor I'd say it is the water tank being topped up Trevor, the fuel tank is to the left, quite a few of the larger stations still had such facilities in 1970. Great pic by the way, a relatively rare capture in the diesel era. 2 1

I am tempted to join it in order to post the picture of 'St.Paddy' taking water - seems this sort of thing was rarely captured on film. Trev52A
How about taking water without stopping? 44948 dips the scoop on Dillicar troughs with 1M32, a Glasgow-Morecambe train (steam from Carlisle) on 15th July 1967 Any more water trough shots? (diesels also did this) Trevor
RMweb Gold TheSignalEngineer Posted August 16, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 16, 2019 (edited) Not a trough shot but there was a request about filling. Not sure that's a good place to park a loco that was still hot enough to sound the whistle, although I think the fire was out by then. Back to Trev52A's call, anyone got a shot of a diesel with the scoop down? Edited August 16, 2019 by TheSignalEngineer 3

This was during the Garratt Centenary celebrations. Following the weekend exhibition at MOSI it was taken to the Beyer Peacock factory in Gorton. From there it went along the Hyde Road with a police escort. It was parked up at Tesco waiting to go to a commemorative event at the church just across the road where Richard Peacock is buried. RMweb Gold phil_sutters Posted October 13, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 13, 2019 (edited) The Elephant & Castle station London. This is one of the least attractive stations I know. The other side opens into the shopping centre which itself is not a thing of great beauty. After this perhaps we should go for ugly station frontages. RMweb Gold 96701 Posted October 15, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 15, 2019 Snowdon station didn't strike me as being particularly beautiful, but I suppose it might fit in with the surroundings in terms of colour. 1
