Tim R-T-C
Hmmm.... not had a chance to start one of these new format challenges yet. How about the word Southern. Interpret as you wish, something that you would connect with Southern, be it relative to a country, the old railway company, name of a station, whatever you have in mind. For me, Southern always means EMUs and memories of going down to watch the classic Mk1 sets in the Orpington area as a child. Not scanned in my old prints yet, but the only digital photo I have of a heritage set in service: SWT 423481 passes Clapham Junction by Timothy Young, on Flickr Plus from the Eden Valley Railway a couple of years back: 4-CEPs at Warcop by Timothy Young, on Flickr
bingley hall
What a challenge..............my first railway memories are all associated with the Southern Region, I work for Southern Shorthaul Railroad, I have a few images taken on the Southern Railway in India and my favourite US railroad is the Southern Pacific. Alas with the latter I have no images - my only visit to the US being during a times when my interest in railway was at a low ebb. So, on the Southern Region, E5001 sits at Dover Marine with the Golden Arrow in August 1967 - the first railway photograph I ever took On the Southern Railway in India, Southern Railway WP class 4-6-2 no.7607 departs Quilon for Trivandrum on 26 December 1978. Built by the Canadian Locomotive Company, Ontario in 1956. Southern Shorthaul Railroad's S317/GM27/GM10/S302 maintain a steady 80 km/h as they rattle past the disused silos at Caltowie with the 1400km transfer move of 90 redundant coal hoppers from Port Augusta to Lithgow, New South Wales on 28 October 2016.
RMweb Gold phil_sutters Posted September 23, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 23, 2017 I think that my first Southern experience was a holiday in Margate in 1953.
