RMweb Premium Ian Smeeton Posted May 27, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 27, 2019 The end of the Quarry Branch at 'Rocks by Rail', Rutland, today. 'Jean' has just placed the 'loaded' hoppers in the departure siding, waiting the next exchange of empties for fulls. More end of the line, please. RMweb Premium Claude_Dreyfus Posted May 27, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 27, 2019 (edited) The end of the line in probably more ways than one. This is Knysna, the terminus of the Garden route coastal branch from Mossel Bay and George, in South Africa. It features that famous coastal viaduct seen in so many pictures of trains in South Africa. Sadly the line is disused, out of use following a landslip, and whilst there is a group actively looking to restore the line, the is a significant chance the line will never operate again; at least according to a number of locals I spoke with. There is work going on, and the station site itself looks to be in good order. The three carriages here, including an articulated example, look to be in need of some tender loving care though. RMweb Gold Metr0Land Posted May 27, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 27, 2019 (edited) Possibly the same type of unit as the Rio pic above. Pikes Peak summit in Colorado must be one of the highest ends of line at just over 14,000ft. Sep 2000. We stayed near there in 1964. The local road (B road standard) had an ungated level crossing so we assumed it was a fairly minor branchline - until we were stopped one day at the crossing and a long express train came past with carriages for Rome! Warnemunde is one of my favourite places. The trains are in and out 'every five minutes'. A very busy station indeed.
Trev52A
The 'end of the line' theme seems to have hit the buffers (groan) so here's a new one; trains and animals. Farmyard animals, wild animals/birds (ostriches with an SAR Class 25 condenser going past, anyone?) - anything goes. Here are two of mine to start: 92137 with a southbound freight on Dillicar water troughs near Tebay on 15th July 1967 A Northern Rail train near Felling, Gateshead on 11th May 2005 Trevor
RMweb Gold Roy Langridge Posted June 8, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 8, 2019 (edited) Probably not quite what you were looking for, but your topic did bring this to mind. No train, but a railway and an animal going past... Edit: Just to add, I was stuck there when one of the new 707s had failed, rather cheered me up. Sorry! Two Class QJ 2-10-2s head a westbound freight climbing through the Jingpeng pass in Inner Mongolia Another Class QJ, this one without smoke deflectors, in action at Pingdingshan in Henan Province.
