jamesg
A piece of recent history. 180106 on an apparently remote part of the Cotswold line, actually just south of Worcester. I'm calling it 'remote' because it's some way from the nearest road and getting there requires a trek across a muddy field. Still, the unusual angle and rarity of photographs taken from this spot make it one of my favourite viewpoints. More countryside please!
eastwestdivide
Some livestock and some rolling stock, Kettering area 1982ish: Perhaps some sheep or goats next? Edited February 3, 2018 by eastwestdivide
RMweb Premium iands Posted February 3, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 3, 2018 Some livestock and some rolling stock, Kettering area 1982ish: N44_0033.jpg Perhaps some sheep or goats next? Been waiting a while to use this photo. No trains, but some goats. Simmon House LC (between Sibsey and Bellwater on the Boston-Skegness line). They were quite well trained, every time the AHB crossing was activated they disappeared back through the trees into the field. Then when the train had passed, out they came again! Any more animals? Regards, Ian.

EddieB
It's gone a bit quiet. Ok, I know monochrome shots aren't as popular, but to keep the animal theme going here's an example of an unexpected wildlife opportunity. As ever, I had the "wrong" lens on the camera loaded with the "wrong" film type. Rummaging around the sidings outside Göteborg station, Sweden I stirred up a pair of hares, one of which stayed long enough to get a couple of shots with the standard lens on one camera (the other, loaded with slide film had a wide angle). Thanks to persecution, hares are uncommon in the UK (there are some railway places where you've a good chance of seeing them), but still fairly common on the Continent - even around the Channel Ports. Here's what I was actually there to photograph - a pair of class Ue electric shunters. How about somewhere with the name that contains or makes reference to an animal?

EddieB
A is for ... Aardvark! Here is NRZ 15A class no. 419, named "ISAMBANE" which is the siNdebele for Orycteropus afer - more commonly known by its Afrikaans name. Taken at Bulawayo shed in 1989, some prestige locomotives were starting to be presented in other than unrelieved black. Any more "A's"?

RMweb Premium newbryford Posted February 8, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 8, 2018 (edited) Are we still on B? A couple of recent ones from a holiday in the last couple of weeks. BL36PH #826 on a southbound Tri-Rail service crossing Commercial Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale - despite the grey skies it was 23C at 9am..... And the very recently opened Brightline service from Fort Lauderdale to West Palm Beach SC-44 "Charger" #103 at FLL. 4400hp on each end of only four coaches. Acceleration was very brisk, but top speed is less than 80mph..... (I believe the plan is to be 7 car sets at 125mph when the service is extended to Orlando with a dedicated passenger only line) I know we've done the alphabet before, but it passed through very quickly. How about doing a 1/2-1 day on each letter, giving plenty of chance for contributions? So more B's please. Cheers, Mick Edited February 8, 2018 by newbryford
