RMweb Premium ardbealach Posted December 22, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 22, 2017 Going back in time to 1982 - the weekend of Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 January and a SLOA Land Cruise from Carlisle to Mallaig via Mossend with loco haulage over the weekend using 26029 37112 37260 83005 and 85021. Left Carlisle two and a half hours late due to bad weather and poor connections in England and most of the trip over WHR in dark with a full eclipse moon. Fort Bill was minus 24 degrees C for the overnight stay. Train eventually ran all the way back to Euston arriving 02.13 am on the Monday morning. I wouldn't have missed it for anything!
Rugd1022
I could look at those ScR photos all day long, wonderfully evocative of the early '80s period. 37112's non standard livery variation was much talked about at the time, in a sea of corporate blue it stood out like sore thumb. That same weekend in January '82 I ventured out on the WR and recall severe delays almost every where I went. eastwestdivide
err, excellent photos, but quoting myself from the previous post ... Next, for a complete change, a train underground, so you can't tell what the weather's like.
RMweb Premium newbryford Posted December 22, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 22, 2017 in the depths of Shinjuku station. There are at least two levels of mainline trains above this and countless knows how many metro lines below..... Staying below street level please. RMweb Premium iands Posted December 22, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 22, 2017 err, excellent photos, but quoting myself from the previous post How about this one, from a train (Class 378) entering the Thames Tunnel between Wapping and Rotherhithe on the ELL. Apologies for the photo quality, slightly blurred, but the auto-focus was having difficulty focusing on something from a moving train in poor light conditions. But you still can't tell what the weather was like. Regards, Ian.
RMweb Gold Metr0Land Posted December 22, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 22, 2017 Are we still under ground? Still grab from video of 303 unit at Glasgow Central July 2000. Let's keep below ground if we can.

RMweb Gold phil_sutters Posted December 23, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 23, 2017 Will the Wath banker do? I don't know the area and Dad doesn't seem to have ventured into the north-west much. Wath and Mexborough seem to be at the eastern end of the line. from what I can Google. Has anyone any steam on the line apart from the banker?

RMweb Gold phil_sutters Posted December 26, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 26, 2017 I get the impression that this thread has run its course. It's hard to find new topics or fresh ways to play the game. We seem to resort to wild cards more and more. Perhaps it needs at least a break. Any one got any different thoughts? RMweb Premium Ian Smeeton Posted December 26, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 26, 2017 I keep looking every day, but until I get hold of a scanner (tomorrow!), I can't add anything new. Keep it going, but being broad on the requirements encourages others to have a go. Regards Ian

cal.n
A reopening as such, 60103 passes through Clitheroe on the first day of the reopening of the Settle - Carlisle line after a landslide at Eden Brows, she is the first steam tour through the reopened line. Rather nicely, she was the last steam tour before the land slip and passed through a week before. The photo isn’t on the S+C, but as mentioned above, we need to keep the thread moving. Remember to keep the suggestions broad, spanning eras, regions and if possible, countries to give everyone a go. Next: Another significant train. You explain why, any reason, even just personally to you.
RMweb Premium newbryford Posted December 26, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 26, 2017 Next: Another significant train. You explain why, any reason, even just personally to you. I saw FS further north on the same day. Although I had already built my first incarnation of the NMT, this was the train that pushed me over the edge into modelling the yellow stuff. 31190/977969/62482/6263/31105 at Derby in 2007 Now I have layout specifically built for the fleet. It's the first train featured on my yellow workbench thread - linked below. More significant stuff again please. Cheers, Mick
