RMweb Gold phil_sutters Posted November 24, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 24, 2017 I am not sure whether this is truly a desert photo. It was take by my grandfather while he was installing electricity in the Abbassia barracks in Egypt in 1913-14. There's not a lot of train but it does seem very dry and dusty there. Something else from the African continent - railway connected of course -please

The rainfall is too low for it to be anything else! I've travelled fairly extensively in Egypt and I can assure you there is an awful lot of sand. keith Edited November 25, 2017 by melmerby
RMweb Gold phil_sutters Posted November 26, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 26, 2017 (edited) If you were in Leeds at the time, you might regard The Clyde as in another country! RMweb Gold phil_sutters Posted November 28, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 28, 2017 Resisting the temptation to offer one of my many photos of 313s in Southern Railway's Coastway branding, here is one Dad took earlier As my ideas seem to demand photos that you haven't got, treat yourselves to a wildcard.

bingley hall
Broad gauge V/Line loco N473 and another unidentified member of the class are in control of the Adelaide bound 'Overland' overnight passenger service from Melbourne at 0700hrs on 10 April 1993 - the rolling stock is a mix of sleeping and sit up cars. The train has just descended Warlah bank (the track can faintly be seen curving away to the right in the background) and is approaching the sleepy hamlet of Callington. Today 'The Overland' is a pale shadow of its former self, now day train rarely loading to more than 5 or 6 carriages, and operating only twice weekly; its future constantly under threat. Next - keep the sleeping car trains coming Edited November 28, 2017 by bingley hall
