In the Ladykillers the view from Miss Wilberforce's house seems to be of St Pancras Station:

post-6208-0-54864200-1509578857_thumb.jpg

Although the set used for the house was built across the cul-de-sac end of Frederick Street over Copenhagen Tunnel and with no clear view of St Pancras!

The railway line at the bottom of the garden led to Caledonian Road goods depot.

Although I knew that there was a tiny glimpse of Titfield Thunderbolt rolling stock in this photo taken at Bristol Temple Meads, I didn't realise that filming had taken place there at 'Mallingford station', until I was doing search engine cheat, looking for film locations.

And something slightly different and requiring a clip from a well known website.

The film was 'The Magic Christian' starring Peter Sellars and Ringo Starr and the railway station and train exterior sequences were all filmed on the Henley Branch.  But originally I was contacted - in the commercial job I was doing at that time which dealt with special train hire by a girl from the production team who wanted to hire 'a blue Pullman'.  After various conversations and some correspondence it turned out that what the producer really wanted was actually a blue (and grey) train - much easier and considerably cheaper ;) .

The station departure scenes were filmed at Henley and the arrival station - supposedly somewhere in Scotland - was filmed at Wargrave further up the branch.  Both provide some glimpses of both stations as they were in the late 1960s.

The back projection used in the classic shot of Alec Guinness on the doorstep was taken from Argyle Street, directly opposite the tower of St Pancras station. The houses at the right edge of the shot are still there.

Both Acton Central and South Acton stations were used in 'Villain', shot in the Summer of 1970...

And the finale was filmed at Nine Elms with the blagger's loot supposedly hidden under one of the arches...

St Pancras also features (incorrectly) in the 1978 film "The Fourth Protocol".  The KGB agent being pursued by Michael Caine is said to be traveling by rail from London to Colchester, yet he is shown catching the train at St Pancras instead of the correct Liverpool Street Station.

The opening sequence of 'The Professionals' 1978 episode 'Rogue' was shot at Paddington (50 010 and 50 049 both make brief appearances)...

Padd was also used in 1979 in 'The Long Good Friday'...

Bit more on the Ladykillers here:

It's very good because hovering the mouse over most of the pictures gives a then & now view.

EDIT they call it Frederica Street but all the OS maps show it as Frederick Street

The wonderful 'Wrong Arm Of The Law' has some nice railway footage filmed in South West London, I can't remember the name of the level crossing and signalbox, I know it's been discussed before though so I'm sure someone will know...

Are not most of these film/tv images screen grabs from the programmes? :scratchhead:

If so yellow cards to those involved! :nono:

We want images taken by yourself or copyright owned by yourself pictures please.

(A film dvd on the bookshelf does not count!) :jester:

Otherwise the topic risks wandering off into other territory.

(maybe it's dead already?)

Cheers

I believe it may well be dead anyway. I joined the topic when it was each following post was a subject picked by the previous poster. Not this, in my eyes a little boring, daily subject.

I have mixed feelings about the daily versus one-by-one challenges. As someone who has a good stock of photos to contribute I got a bit weary of thinking up new challenges, so the daily version gave bit of relief. Perhaps that is now running out of new ideas too.

Easily resolved. Isn't there a rule about a wildcard if nothing has been posted for 24 hours? Here's a wildcard, picked at random.

4160 at Blue Anchor on the West Somerset, on 11th June 2000.

Next, another photo taken in 2000.

Simple, problem solved :).

I've had a break for a while, as I found quite a few subject suggestions were too broad or duplicated what had been there before (as were some of the pictures).  A good suggestion recently (film locations), but posting screen grabs or other peoples' work was never the intention.

Picking up the first sheet of slides that comes to hand from 2000, here's a preserved DSB K class 4-4-0 departing from Odense in August 2000, when the Danish Railway Museum was celebrating its anniversary.

Quite happy to stay with the year 2000 as a theme in the immediate future.  If I get to choose the next subject, then how about photos taken in November - probably the low point on the photographic calendar?
