When I had a pub roof done years ago in Long Crendon which was then called the Chandos Arms the thatcher put a pair of peacocks on the ridge after the publicans name.

Been there. Lovely pub. Don't know if it's still around as this was a fair number of years ago - double digits.

The Chandos Arms has a website that is easily found with a simple search on the web. If it was close to a railway station I would enjoy a trip there for a meal.

When I was responsible for it it was a lovely traditional pub doing food, would have been late 80’s and through the 90’s.

The last time I drove past, ten odd years ago it was called The Gurka (I think).

No idea now!

Oh that is a change. When I knew it was the late 90's early 2000.

In the chair today we have none other than KNP of Oxford. Answering questions on your specialist subject. The life and times of the GWR in the 1930s and the legend of Little Muddle.

And your time starts... Now!

I used to go in the Chandos a long time ago when did you run  it?

I was a building surveyor responsible for the maintenance and refurbishment of the Whitbread(Wethered) estate in the Thames Valley.

The then landlords name was.....Mr Peacock.

I find a pic of a GWR railcar in the landscape can be deeply moving.

Especially this one as I moved it by hand to set up the picture!!!!

I think that the big question is why can't the designers of the modern equivalent come up with something which looks that good?

Current shapes and liveries look like the box your toothpaste came in...

Even the current GWR livery is wrong... now imagine an 800 in chocolate and cream with a proper WR green liveried power car...
