I was told that it was because reverse was the lowest gear in the box. Paul. As a (very) small boy, I remember holidays with my family when we regularly ascended hills backwards to gain advantage of the very low reverse gear. As we did not trust the cable brakes either, my mother walked behind, keeping a house brick pressed up against a front tyre to ensure the car would not slide back should dad have to pause the assent. There is just no colour in life today! :-) Edited July 14, 2021 by nigel newling missing key word :-) 4 1

MrWolf
Is the village centre known as Inner Muddle? I have been up Porlock hill in a 1947 Vauxhall Fourteen that was over fifty years old at the time, it wasn't particularly slow, having a 6 cylinder OHV engine, but you could feel it winching itself up, I think that the fuel consumption was about 5 mpg though!

RMweb Gold Limpley Stoker Posted July 14, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 14, 2021 I seem to spend most of my gardening time trying to eradicate Enchanters Nightshade, a weed that seems to spread cunningly through underground tentacles. Modelling is far more satisfying!
