Did you need to remove an internal “column” to get the chassis to move further forward? If so, how did you do that? (Would be great to remove the one from the cab for a more open cab too, I am thinking!)

Shown ringed in yellow!!

Yes in this case had to remove about 10mm off the forward lug, i used a "dremmel" grinding machine slow speed with a circular saw attachment

The other previous model i did about a decade ago i removed front lug using a fly cutter in a drill press

I must admit that as a teenager I tried to snap off the spigots on mine and ended up with a hole in the top of the boiler, which stayed there until I recently rescued it from my Mum's loft and repaired it - goodness knows why, I might put a chassis under it one day (6 coupled, perhaps?) Of course I didn't have a Dremel in the 1980's !

Another "Polly" put into service, chassis with dud X04 motor purchased for £2, body acquired some years back 20p ?

Motor X04 cleaned, it smelt like been in an attic for years, and repaired, broken brush. Chassis cut back to lower body by 2mm same buffer height as Hornby Dublo, wheels pulled out a bit for code 100.

Quite a bit of metal removed front and back, this allows other bodies to fit and be lowered

In past I've cut using hack saw and file, this time mounted in a milling machine at local "men's shed", lot easier

has anyone made one of these into the Ger B74  pug later i think Y4?

I think 'yes and no' sums up my effort, which will probably end up being repainted as a generic industrial tank.

I posted the same loco to the A Wild Kitbash Appeared thread, as I imagine this thread is to show our own efforts, and that thread is to show those we have stumbled across!

HOURS OF FUN!

Hi there,

Here's my attempt at a Nelliebosh.  I can't remember where I got the outside cylinders. I used little brass eyelets for the window surrounds. The motor is an ancient seven-pole Zenith but has been remagnetized and the performance is quite good.

Cheers,

TJ.

Almost positive the cylinders and main rods are from the Bachmann Percy, or its previous none franchise related UK brotheren.image.png.d6fe39078eeadc04f5807de8224d38bb.pngimage.png.1b946c61e8211479710765f75304dc1a.png

Shared on the Kitmaster thread already, but here are some of my Jintysteins

Two of the Dapol Prairies, the Jinty significance? The main chassis blocks and motors are taken from Triang Jinties!

First pic shows the basic construction of the chassis.

Prairie at far back in the second pic is on an Airfix GMR chassis, the two forwardmost use the Jinty chassis, fitted with early Triang Princess wheels, really nice runners for what they are, though I’m tempted to use wheels from a Fowler 4P or a tender drive 5MT on one of my next ones so I can take them to the club.

Very impressive.  It looks right with outside cylinders as there would be no clearance under the firebox for the inside cranks, I am guessing the  valve gear works from the front axle like the Tallylyn Dolgoch....   A shame you can't remember where the outside cylinders and rods came from as I have a couple of Polly's awaiting surgery

It's £16 now   11.30pm on the 25th  Oct,   plus £4.80 p+p out of my price range.   But I do have two dead Dock shunter bodies and  at least three Jinty chassis so a replica is definitely do able.   I do wonder if Nellie wheels would look better, my Davy Crockett 4-4-0 has Nellie wheels on a  Jinty chassis so I know it works, not much clearance under the drive gear but just enough to clear points etc.

Remember, lights out, trousers off, torch to face, war cry.

You can then be the poster boy for us "New Wave" modellers.

Let us know how it goes.....😎

Currently in ownership of four Trix Twin locos (two basic 0-4-0 tender locos, an 0-4-0 tank engine and a heavily damaged "Pytchley"), been meaning to convert them to 2 rail DC runners, need to pick up that project again and redo the chassis on the 0-4-0 tender locos...

Been on my mind for a while, when I started the 0-4-0s I used a Nellie chassis, Jinty wheels, cocktail sticks glued into the axle holes with bits of plastic from glue packaging glued on the end to hold the rods on, quickly found that this wasn't a good fix, so I'm incredibly tempted to go back to this project and redo it... Will let you all know how it goes.

If you already have all those raw materials then why not go for it? It will be much more satisfying than buying one anyway. Yes to the Nellie wheels from me - do away with the flangeless centre drivers!

Get yourself an 8 BA tap to make threads in the con rod holes. You can use standard Triang/Hornby screws then. Much more satisfying!
