I detest Dapol, they make some excellent wagon types but the running is abysmal on almost all of them and as for the couplings don't get me started! As you know I converted 12 Dapol A003 unpainted hoppers into my Anhydrite rake but due to running faults caused by those floppy couplings I was forced to take serious action and practically invent a new style coupling which I may sell to Dapol Hahaha. Problem is its only good for fixed rakes no good to a man like you that loves shunting mate :nono:

If you are running fixed rakes, then maybe try some of these Bachmann coach couplings -

I have used them successfully on a push/pull coach rake. They are meant for bogie coaches, but, if you don't have tight radius curves, they may be useful on 4 wheel stock that has a pivoting NEM pocket ?  I haven't tried them on any 4 wheel stock, so, couldn't comment on their suitability any further. Obviously, they wouldn't be any good on stock with a fixed NEM pocket.

Such a shame, as you say, some great prototypes but let down badly with poor quality production.

I do like your Coupling idea though mate, very clever indeed, especially for going downhill on your Helix.

Hi Andi, I have tried them on a few bits, including the Dapol Wagons but the gap was enormous on those, I haven't tried them Bachmann Wagons, another idea worth looking into.

Cheers Andi.

I have managed to grab a couple of Hours this afternoon and an Hour this evening to have a play about with Much Dithering Station.

I've also made the Backscene for the Road Bridge at Dore End Station.

Looking down on Much Dithering, YES I know the Bus is wrong, but I need to get an Oxford area one for the Station forecourt, AND the Signal Box will be changed for the GW Highley one, but I couldn't be a**ed to get it out of the Box yet.

With the Coal Yard going back to the left.

And the Dairy will be where the Provender Store is at the moment.

Very pleased so far, plenty of room for a nice Grass Bank along the back and some Trees by the Road Bridge.

Yo Andy dude,

Is that going to be a big enough terminus for you, bro?

Hahha I've reduced it in size mate, It was a 3 Coach Platform and a bigger Coal Yard at the other end and a 5 Wagon Loading Dock complete with End Loading, and a BIG Dairy, LESS IS MORE.

Hi Andi,

I tried this a while ago but sadly the radius on the spiral was too tight.

Cheers Andi.

I even tried shortening them, softening and bending them but all to no avail!

There appears to be a little red alien attacking your station Andy, did you know?

Al.

Hahha, Yes, it was supposed to represent an old Oil Drum but didn't turn out quite right, I meant to do some Boxes as well, awaiting Loading.

Hi Andy,

Back in the day there used to be a Glasgow/Edinburgh to Poole service called the Wessex Scot It used to turn up with a Scottish class 47/4 quite often.

Great Peter, Thanks for that, so it's 47/4's or deputised 37/4's on the Poole / Glasgow / Edinburgh Service, 50's on the Paddington Run and 33's on whatever else needs a Loco, hahah. Brilliant pic as well, again I'd love to run NSE, but a bit to new again, SHAME. :stinker:

Whilst Scottish 47/4s certainly turned up from time to time on the Wessex Scot, as they did on many cross country trains south of BNS, they wouldn't have worked down on it from Scotland; the train was electric hauled along the WCML with the 47/4 coming on at New Street. As for 37/4s, I don't ever recall seeing or hearing one had worked an Inter City cross country loco hauled train. They would not have been diagrammed to do so because their ETH index wasn't high enough, so any working would have been last minute due to a failure of the rostered loco. I would have expected a 47/0 to be preferred over a 37/4.

I've also seen 33s and 73s working the Southern Region section of cross country trains, particularly when the trains still changed locos during the reversal at Reading. 50s also appeared on them from time to time north of Reading.

Thanks Andrew, I wonder what the LL Scottie Dog 37 was doing North Bound at Plymouth then?

As with all / most of my running Rule #1 will appy.

Thanks for the info.

When was it? 37412 came down to the WR from Scotland still with name and Westie dog and along with 37411 was a regular on the Saturday loco hauled Bristol -Weymouth turn, so could have been in the area, though what it would have been working in Plymouth I've no idea, unless a diesel leg of a steam special?
