pb_devon
Saltash Town Council has been pondering a Compulsory Purchase, and out of the blue the building has been repainted. I cannot advise what has caused this to happen.

brianusa
All they have to do now is fix it up and get rid of that shed. Don't know what the commuter base is in the area but no doubt they would appreciate a better station. It can only grow along with the growth in the area. Brian. Not much in the way of commuters, there is an excellent bus service into Plymouth which takes most commuters.
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted October 18, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 18, 2016 Don't hold your breath.......thevstation saga has been rumbling on for years and years, and don't even mention the old goods shed. The council's main concern was to see it tidied up and made to look as if it isn't derelict (even if it is) but I understand they still have an interest in wishing to take it over although the present owner isn't being particularly helpful. Can your source advise who did the painting? The owner or the council?
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted October 19, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 19, 2016 Can your source advise who did the painting? The owner or the council? I'll try to remember to get Mrs Stationmaster to ask the next time she speaks to her friend in Saltash (who happens to be on the council).
royaloak
Can your source advise who did the painting? The owner or the council? I believe it was the owner as a way of 'heading off' the Council and their CPO.
RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted October 20, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 20, 2016 Not much in the way of commuters, there is an excellent bus service into Plymouth which takes most commuters. Quite an active Community Rail group based there, though, which deserve support.
royaloak
Quite an active Community Rail group based there, though, which deserve support. They do, Saltash does provide quite a few rail customers but they are spread throughout the day. It could do with a more regular service for a start, there are some long gaps between trains. RMweb Premium Gwiwer Posted October 21, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 21, 2016 They do, Saltash does provide quite a few rail customers but they are spread throughout the day. It could do with a more regular service for a start, there are some long gaps between trains. Good to see any money being spent there at all. As a gateway to Cornwall it's been a disgrace for many years and right after those stunning views from the bridge too. As a commuter station for Plymouth it's not well used because the stations sit awkwardly for the residential areas of Saltash and the business core of Plymouth; buses are much better for those trips and far more frequent. But there is a decent trickle of people using the station any time a train does stop. Some probably going farther up-country and not wishing to change in (or be driven to) Plymouth when a direct train is available. And some are heading west, judging by conversations and known on-board ticket sales taking advantage of the £13 Ride Cornwall tickets giving unlimited (after 09.00) travel in the Duchy by rail and major bus operators.
