great central
Re the quiz 90. It's at Trent Junction, the one between Nottingham and Derby. It was being dragged across via Nottingham because if I recall correctly the Nuneaton -Leicester line was shut. Someone then decided it was out of gauge and couldn't go any further so was left there for a time. Although I do believe several 90s had been dragged by the same route previously without incident

Although I do believe several 90s had been dragged by the same route previously without incident That's spot on. ISTR there was some element of confusion regarding clearances when the pan is down, but not fully locked down- which couldn't be assured I'm this case so the 90 was dumped there. luckymucklebackit
I remember before the WCML electrification was completed to Glasgow the class 84s were stored surplus to requirements, this meant that they were ideal locos to be dragged out at various open days to represent AC traction. There was one at Carlisle Diesel Depot open day in May 1971 (unfortunately I cannot remember the number) but what I do remember was that the drivers desks were covered in initials scratched into the paintwork by spotters. this obviously was not its first appearance! Here is 84009 at Millerhill ECML construction Depot in its later guise of load bank tester ADB968021 Some unexpected visitors to Millerhill Jim Edited September 9, 2016 by luckymucklebackit

robertcwp
Re-post #14 from Clive. The coach isn't one of the a/c batches - it's just the way the Brute trolley has been parked that makes it look a bit like that. i'd say the coach was either a Mk2 or (most probably) a Mk2a. Mark 2 - vacuum braked. The LMR did not have any air-braked Mark 2 stock until Mark 2c stock was introduced in 1970.

RMweb Premium ColinK Posted September 11, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 11, 2016 Some recent ones. Here is 87002 stabled at Edinburgh Waverley yesterday (10th September). And here it about to set off from Edinburgh to Liverpool today with the GBRF 15 Charity Railtour. I travelled on it as far as Preston and the 87 ran really well. The (inaccurate) speedo on my phone said it did 100mph. Excellent trip.
