RMweb Premium Claude_Dreyfus Posted August 29, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 29, 2016 There seems to be a lack of class 91 on this thread! 91011 by Claude_Dreyfus, on Flickr Line up of class 91s at Kings Cross. From the front, 91011, 91027, 91003 and a final unidentified example. RMweb Gold russ p Posted August 29, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 29, 2016 The 91s have never looked better than in the original livery. The latest one is probably the worst
cravensdmufan
A really excellent thread - thanks to everyone who have uploaded photos. AC traction was always a favourite for me - I remember tearing up and down the WCML, always good lively runs especially with Mk1's in the early 70's! Here are some of my photos, scanned from prints, alas all from the early 90's as I didn't even own a camera when the locos were blue! Apologies for the lack of dates etc - very poor archiving on my part. More to follow........

Any idea what was going on with no. 005 - an 87, 2xBG and one Mk2?
luckymucklebackit
007 - The loco on the passenger set looks like 86 236 "JOSIAH WEDGWOOD" going by the colour of the nameplate. Jim

RMweb Gold 96701 Posted August 30, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 30, 2016 87101 on a test train? I would have thought that 87101 was well past testing by the time that photo was taken. Extract from http://www.aclocogroup.co.uk/history87.php The locos were built by BREL Crewe between 1972 and 1974 with the first, 87001, entering traffic in June 1973 allocated to Willesden Depot in London. The fleet entered service gradually until the last 'standard' machine, 87035, was delivered in October 1974. The final locomotive, originally to be numbered 87036, but entering traffic as 87101, was built as a test bed for new electronic power control equipment, using thyristor technology to replace the tap-changer transformer and rectifiers. This loco appeared in 1975 and spent many months on test before entering regular use during 1976.
298
Any idea what was going on with no. 005 - an 87, 2xBG and one Mk2? Pick any one from: Stock balancing move/ vehicles being tripped to or from works attention. Driver training. Very short ad-hoc passenger working! I don't think it is a revenue earning Parcels service as although there were some short formations used, they were more likely to have been a BG+GUV and not in Intercity. Another wayward possibility is it is a Central Door locking demonstrator coach used for staff training at stations being moved, but it doesn't appear to have CDL lights. McGomez
I do like these photo threads. A few of mine. A class 90 under construction at Crewe Works 1987. A pair of 86s double heading what looks like a rake of BBAs at Warrington during the summer of 1982. 87005 leaving Crewe southbound with a rake of NSE branded blue and grey MK1s. 4th june 1987. 87101 on display at Bounds Green open day, 4th May 1987. I never did like those white window surrounds on 101. Prototype APT 370002 at Crewe Works open day 1981. 91019 passes a 313 whilst leaning into the curve at Hatfield during summer 2014.

cravensdmufan
Another batch of scanned prints from my archives. The 90's with the empty HEA's in tow were taken at Leigh-on-Sea on the LT&S when they were used on Saturday mornings for driver training. It was unusual to see any locomotives on this secion of the line. Note the paint peeling off the front of the Intercity Mainline liveried one! That would be a modelling challenge! Again, apologies for lack of more specific details and dates due to my lack of proper recording which I now regret.
