RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted September 2 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 2 (edited) Progress. Before I can do anything else on Exchange, these uncouplers have to be done. The whole concept of a steam era terminus won't work unless arriving trains can be uncoupled from the engines. This isn't actually accurate for the GN side of exchange, where whole trains were reversed back up to St. Dunstans then turned through the triangle there, and then reversed back down into the station. I can do this if I so wish but using Queensbury triangle instead! The scope of operations seems endless. Work on this has been very slow. For a start it can only be done by crawling about under the layout. Now I'm finding that the springs have too much tension, so each one has to be rebuilt with a zip tie spring. Each one also requires an individual approach to its design as can be seen here. The two taller ones at right, had to be made upside-down because of space restraints and they are of opposite hand construction. The one on platform one (top left) has a pulley wheel made from surplus plastic coach wheels placed face to face on the same axel end, necessary because it's right up against the baseboard rib. Incidentally, this one works best. So far, I need to rebuild the taller two with the zip tie, make the middle two work smoothly and build 4 more at the other end. It's only a 2 out of ten success rate so far🙄 The factory is almost finished. Most of the work on this was dealing with light bleed. Black electrical tape is indispensable here but sticky and tricky. It's a half relief structure with a MDF skeleton, I blanked out the rear with push fit foamboard sections When the sun has gone I'll post up another image with the lights on. Lastly here's the train pic. A strange visitor to Goathland (or is it?). 2512 Silver Fox. An absolutely splendid model train wouldn't you agree? Squatch. Must have been a grand sight. I think the silver ones went well with teak stock. Edited September 2 by Sasquatch
RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted September 3 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 3 (edited) Very pleased with all ten uncouplers. Once I’d settled on a basic layout of the little wooden mechanisms things sped up quite well. Just struggled with tying the knots. There’s a couple that don’t rise level but they work so they’ll have to do. Here’s the lights in the factory. Pleased with the result. To get the yellow light effect, what I did was to simply fix the old yellowed glazing to the LED strips with hot glue. The electrical tape works well. RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted September 6 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 6 When there's a little modeling time available, I have been doing a touch of scenic work here and there. N1 69443 negotiates the point work at the South Junction over Brow Lane road bridge after departing Queensbury with a Bradford to Keighley service. It's more of a short tunnel really wouldn't you say! Squatch. 13 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post Sasquatch Posted September 13 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 13 (edited) Had a very relaxing evening doing a bit more scenic work yesterday. After making 150 more willow herbs Wednesday evening I must have spent about 2 hours poking holes and sticking them in all over Queensbury. It grows in abundance there and I'm starting to get the desired effect. Not happy with the area at the top end of Brow Lane I also made a few maples out of rosemary, dog bed stuffing and a blend of scatter. It didn't look complete until a second batch of smaller young trees were added. Really like this scene. RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted September 14 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 14 A quick post from me today. I've to tidy up because I'm expecting a visitor or two! Mrs. S. found this Heki Bergwiese carpet in one of my drawers to use on some Xmas ornaments she's making. When I saw how good the stuff is I decided to see if it would liven up Queensbury's embankments. In future I'll place small teased apart mats of it down first and add the willow herb afterwards. I have to make this stretch because there's none available on this side of the Atlantic and the shipping from Europe is pure madness at about 100 euros. What's the world coming to? The typical Bradford to Keighley passenger service once again. (Yes, I know it's on the wrong road. 69443 has had to run around the triangle before heading back to the terminus!). I was looking at the Ex-Kirk range on Phoenix yesterday. That lavatory composite isn't listed in their range and a closer look revealed that I'd kit bashed it. Don't remember doing that! manna
G'Day Folks I'm lucky, I buy my stuff on E-Bay and get it sent to my son, who saves it up into one decent parcel. At a lot better price than the extremists prices on E-Bay. manna 2

EBay has gone down hill for us modelers, that's for sure. You can no longer search for listings in specific categories for one thing. Such as "Kirk" in "Model railroads"! I only buy from North American sellers too because as you say the international shipping is just plain stupid. No one is going to pay over $100 to get a $9 item shipped. Selling is a thing of the past too because if you sell more than $500 dollars' worth of stuff it has to be declared in our tax returns! Hatton's closure has basically killed it for me! I haven't brought so much as a wagon body this year!! There's a lot of sellers (Like Peters Spares) who won't ship things like flushgalzing without tracking and signed for, which pushes the cost beyond stupidity! I might take up a different hobby, like firearms.😒same as most of the unconstructive folk around here! Sorry, winging over! RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted yesterday at 02:42 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted yesterday at 02:42 (edited) Despite all that's happening around here I have snuck into the garage every evening to do a bit of modeling, mostly scenic detailing. However here is something a bit different from me, a bit of flush glazing! A while back I brought a pair of Dapol LMS cross country coach kits, just because I liked the livery and the price. After much detailing to the underframes etc. they have formed the odd passenger service from time to time and the other day after finding two packs of flush gazing (Meant for another old Airfix LMS project pair that got shelved), I decided to have ago at putting the glazing in these. Original windows on right. The interiors also received some paint. It has improved the appearance to a degree and there's the fact that you can see through and out the other side now. They definitely look quite smart. Once I have worked out how to order from Squires, there's a considerable amount of stock that should benefit from the same treatment. The plan this month was to build the new mill town baseboards, but the Gods have intervened once again with a pressing renovation contract. Mustn't Grumble!!!
