Mrs. Shmbo say's I must be patient and that we should plaster the whole place out. Do it properly like. I'd rather spend the money on some plywood and code 75 myself. In the long term I guess she's right (again)!

my dear.....She is ALWAYS right.......

A nice railway mural when your ready would be fun.

What a day............ Went outside to give a letter to the mail lady and a huge chunk of our biggest oak broke off and fell 30 feet. only damage to the fence luckily enough. Then some nasty yellow jacket wasp stung me on the wrist.

I'll think I'll stay indoors for the rest of the day.........

On inspection it looks like we may have to take the whole tree down as it is dangerous due to its age. A shame but we'll be nice and warm next winter!

No dry wall or code 75 track as now I need a chain saw!

Now that we have taken all the foliage off the extent of damage can be seen, there's not much left of the crab apple tree. It's forecast to be 101F today so maybe some modeling later.

Just very busy with seasonal chores and work etc. Now that summer is here there is a danger level of high right now and that means all yard machine usage such as weed whackers, mowers and chainsaws is before 1pm. So what with that and trying to beat the heat I'm not usually on here until everyone else has gone to bed!

We've had some major electrical problems which needed sorting and repairs to the pump. I don't even like to mention the chimney sweeping event yesterday, where the brush got stuck and the pipe had to be dismantled and took up the rest of the day coaxing it back together.

The drywall in the garage is nearly finished, the woodwork shop is up and running and work is coming in thick and fast. Pictures when I get 5 mins.

The mill has been sat on my workbench for most of the week! Too knackered to get on with it though and had to put it away as we had guests!!

For a temporary set up I thought I might just put Goathland and Dunster together in the garage. Not prototypical but could be a lot of fun.

Hi Andy,

We have some stuff called sting stop which works pretty well. Mrs. S. got stung twice yesterday by hornets and there were paper wasps up there under the chimney cowling, luck has it that they're not aggressive otherwise I might have fallen off the roof.

Good to see you posting!

Shaun

Am not going to start the saw until SWMBO is home tomorrow.

Good idea about the coffee. I'm into Mexican-mocha  at the mo (iced)!

Slippers? In this weather??

Almost ready for painting........

Love the sunset....

We get some great pink ones....not really deep red like that

This one from 2007 Feb looked like the sky was on fire.....I stupidly missed the opportunity to reflect it in our pond as it did not occur to me

- Love to see G & T together! - lottsa fun and great pics!

Tonkin

Hi Tony.

Our friend came to visit with her 5 year old so we obviously retreated to the attic to drive some trains. The warm weather has proved this isn't a good home for layouts as the track has expanded causing shorts due to the live frog arrangements on Dunster. So my idea is to move it in with Goathland to the well insulated garage which I can install an air conditioning unit.

As they both share the fiddle yard the obvious move would be to add in a couple of points and run it as a branch!

The idea of catching a DMU service from Exmoor to the North York Moors sounds great wouldn't you agree?

Dunster suffering in the heat. The ceiling up there is only 4'6" at one end.

After two 11 hour days work converting a shed into an art studio I was looking forward to a day off. Mrs. S. had a better idea.
Well lets just say that's the first chain saw experience over with! You wouldn't believe what hard work that is, especially in 90F weather. Fun though.

Now back to mill building. post-8964-0-45688800-1404938981.jpg

I can't make a decision about how to finish off the roof. The prototype has a double hipped roof

post-8964-0-35999100-1404940474.jpg

but I think the model would look better with a walled in double gable. Any opinions???????

Shaun, birthday boy here (yesterday now!) so still under the effects of champagne etc. but I have somewhere a copy of an article from one of the model railway mags on how to form a double hipped roof. If you change your mind and want to try, send me a PM and I'll nail a copy to the reply.

Kind regards,

Jock.

Sorry for the wait guys and gals.

The garage dry wall is finished so I got in there Friday and Saturday and gave it a coat of primer.

Then......... I took Dunster apart and began moving all the parts into the garage/train hall!

Today with the help of Mrs. Sasquatch we began with the assembly of Goathland. After sorting many electrical problems the layout is up and running. So without further ado here are some pictures which I hope show different views than those posted before.
