RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted January 8 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 8 On 26/12/2023 at 14:08, billbedford said: Don't forget that these vans were placed between the train and the loco while the wagons were propelled up the slope. The allocation on these vans is slightly misleading. they were in fact specifically provided provided for working on the Cwmffwrdoer and Cwmnantddu branches (one for each branch) which both started from Branches Fork jcn. On these branches they were required to remain coupled to the engine(s) at all times, including when running light, and were indeed marshalled between the engine and the trains - at the lower (Branches Fork) end of the train. On ascending trains the Head Guard rode on the brakevan and the Under Guard rode in the leading wagon. If they did work down to Pontnewynydd Jcn (from Branches Fork) they would have run in the normal position. presumably they were showm ae Pontnewunydd rather than the branch name because the Guards were based there although they might well have worked op from there either with a light engine or with a train. The post war build clearly had a side lamp bracket so could run at the rear of a train but I can't find a clear enough illustration of an original build van to establish if they too had side lamp brackets. 3

Hippel
Hi, I'm normally a Diesel fan, but these vans are going to be my rule 1 item! I've tried searching t'interweb but cannot see any photos of the GW vans, but there's some of the BR numbers pair. Are there any photos that you know of showing the position of the lettering in GW days? Thanks in anticipation, Paul

Note that the original pair had a signal lamp bracket in the centre of the cabin. County of Yorkshire
Picked up the Coral, Aero & Hydra wagon kits in 4mm from Brian at the Donny Exo. First thoughts are that the Coral & Aero kits are amongst the best 3d prints of railway rolling stock I’ve yet seen; I don’t think they’ll take much fettling. The crated propellers for the aero kit are particularly fine. I look forward to making them up. 3 1
