Speaking of Norman yolks, or jokes, I'm sure that I misrecall a scene from Gerry Andersons early puppet creations, "Supercar", where Dr Beaker is examining an ancient tomb in a crypt and exclaims "It contains Norman Wisdom!".

Norman Yolk?

You mean that big yellow patch behind the keep?

Saunters off, whistling.......

No, that's Northern Damp.

Even harder to get rid of.

I'd imagined the Warren Lodge as something that could be seen, across a heath, with a stand of pines beyond, from a passing train on a rural stretch of the WNR; part of the layout known as CA, rather than the village of CA.

I do like those little Medieval bunnies.

And, the yellow Atlantic tank. Its the loco that I cannot understand why Ace Trains, didn't make when they produced a huge array of 4-4-4T and 4-4-2T 20+ years ago, thereby kickstarting the Tinplate Revival Movement ...... if you look at my thread, you'll see how easily one could be represented (to tinplate levels of evocation) using a Hornby No.2 or an Ace tank.

Weren't there professional mourners in Victorian and Edwardian times?  I seem to recall reading of that somewhere.

Jim

The link to the Brookwood railway kindly posted by Nearholmer includes a picture stated to be of professional mourners (overacting): https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/107713-castle-aching/?p=3443071

Put spectacles on Dr Beaker, and he might be CJF in an astonished moment.

I was sat here wondering why the Warrener is offering them a slice of toast on a stick.
