RMweb Gold Hroth Posted August 17, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 17, 2017 It is pushing it's head under for the full measurement that is the tricky bit. Don Nahhhhh.... Dead easy. Its like dipping sheep, you just push its head under with the back of a yard brush! If you're really picky, you can also account for the volume of the brush head... And the portion of shaft that was submerged too......
RMweb Gold Hroth Posted August 17, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 17, 2017 Hence the joke. Policeman pulls Schrodinger over and asks to search his car. Schrodinger, "Ohhh, you don't want to look in there...."

RMweb Premium Northroader Posted August 19, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 19, 2017 Nosing in the current MRJ (256) in our newsagents this morning, there's quite a good article on modelling town buildings, looking at the centre of Totnes. Very much in your style of doing things.
Talltim
I was just thinking that, also a castle on the hill. Also the rational for choice of motive power for Edford sounded familiar!

Nearholmer
Woopee! A round of 'French Railway Seaside Posters'; I always enjoy this. See below (sea, below?), although I'm not sure that the sturdy-looking mademoiselle in red actually adds anything to what is otherwise an entrancing view. And, of no relevance at all, a recommendation that King Ludwig II should visit CA, by means of his exceedingly Ruritanian Royal Train, handily available in H0 scale from Messrs Maerklin, at a reassuring price. BG John
The wheel looks worryingly unattached to anything, and that look on his face suggests, he's about to throw it overboard. I'm not sure crossing the channel is a likely outcome. More like getting part way, then travelling in a downwards direction.

relaxinghobby
For me it's a 'no brainer'. Up there with Glasgow Corporation's 'Sewage Disposal' wagons. Glasgow Corpn. Sewage wagons.jpg Apologies for the quality, cropped from a postcard sized image of a CR boiler wagon. The three wagons to the right were Glasgow Police Commissioners manure wagons. The Police Commisioners were responsible for street cleansing before that was taken over by the Corporation. They never carried any lettering. Jim Inspired by the above photo of the sewage wagons. Mustn't grumble, mustn't grumble..... The express engines, inparticular that big blue one, never seem to get given this job. Flash photography shows I didn't paint the back of the wagon wheels, perhaps I could use a marker pen. RMweb Premium uax6 Posted August 22, 2017 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 22, 2017 (edited) Had a family outing to Castle Acre today, so I took the precaution of taking the camera and taking some shots of things in the village. We parked Dot outside the Dodo, and then went to the Castle, walked by the river to the ford (where about half a dozen of the village children were playing in the ford) and then up to the Priory, and then back to the Dodo for a Ginger Beer. Here are the photos, Dot in the foreground of the 1st one... And when we walked back into the village we passed an antiquey place which had this in the window: Andy G Edited August 22, 2017 by uax6

RMweb Gold Hroth Posted August 22, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 22, 2017 I had one of those Tri-ang Puff-Puffs! It had a crank inside that drove rubber bellows that made a "realistic puffing sound". Now I realise where they got the idea for the sandpaper tender device from.... It should also have a little bell hanging off the bracket in front of the cab. Give a child something like that nowadays and they'd look at you funny!
Nearholmer
When I see old toys in nearly new condition, as that one is, I always wonder what the story behind them is. Why so little played with? I've got a c1937 Bassett Lowke 0-4-0T that falls into this bracket, but in that case, the explanation looks clear ...... someone had fitted one of the wheels 'out of quarter', possibly even during manufacture, so it got its coupling rods crossed when given the slightest load, until sorted. Little Johnny (I can't recall his actual name, but it is pencilled on the box) must have been really disappointed! Castle Acre/Aching ....... does the NT own the whole place?! It looks almost too perfect. Really must go there ...... summer is fast expiring, and all my cunning plans in that direction have come to nought, so far.
