LBRJ
Do these cottages still stand? I understood that in the days of enlightened town and country planning, dwellings with only one door would have been condemned as unfit for human habitation. I am not so sure on that, I can think of at least three old cottages, all fairly near to me that only have one door. which just happens to be on the sheltered side of the buildings, as already mentioned. In fact these houses are very well provided with fenestration on the windy side. You have captured that rather grim upland bleakness really well! RMweb Gold Popular Post Worsdell forever Posted January 14, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 14, 2018 Well, not done much of late, going on holiday didn't help though, but yesterday I managed to do a bit, the grassed area in front of the houses (without doors) has had weedy bits added and I've painted up a bloke to trudge alongside the railway, whether he's a railwayman or a miner I'm not sure.
RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted January 14, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 14, 2018 uPVC man will have a field day. All those windows that need replacing, not to mention the guttering and gable ends. After that you'll have the damp proofing and insulation sales peeps along. Local builder with his velux skylights will surely be able to add value too.

He normally walks on the track but there's a ruddy great loco in his way... From your photos of the current site the houses look the ideal restoration project for the home DIYist. Yeah, wouldn't take much to get it back to being habitable.

RMweb Gold Popular Post Worsdell forever Posted January 21, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 21, 2018 Been working on the hillside behind the road this morning, it's a bit rougher than everywhere else with more gorse bushes and scrub, oh, plus a few sheep.
Mrkirtley800
That looks very nice Paul, you have got the gorse dead right. The cutting sides above the stone transshipment platform of Kirkby Stone Co, and Hanlith Junction will be infested with gorse. I hope it looks as good as yours. RMweb Gold Popular Post Worsdell forever Posted January 29, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 29, 2018 Made a start on the buildings behind the terrace, there's even less info on these, only the outlines on the map to go by so there's a lot of guessing. They should be about 6" further back but they have been brought closer so the baseboards stay a sensible size. Problem is, they're going to be mostly hidden. And a little detail for Stubby...
