A light rubbing over with a fibreglass pen to tone the 'extreme' blue down a bit to a grayer colour - will dry bush further blue brick over this next.... Think it looks reasonable...? A work in progress as they say, overall 'happy' at the moment, although perhaps it a bit like when I'm developing a sun tan.....? 'A bit blotchy' to begin with....? Maybe it's me being picky, but just a'int quite there...? What do you kind guys think or suggest? Again, very reminiscent of the brickwork on the bridge / viaduct out of Moor Street (opposite Selfridges’s giant silver dish covered blob). Really minor niggle: there’s a couple of the red bricks on the top left-hand side in the third photo that stand out a touch more than they should - perhaps a light touch with the mortar mix needed to tone them down? 1 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Will have to sleep on it, with a day at Arley planned for tomorrow will look at it Sunday evening, as I have added a further batch of DAS and Artex in the hope of taking off the 'blotchy' look, I may have 'whitened' it too much, oh dear...? Don't want to overwork this section and ruin it, and can't flood it with water to thin the DAS out now? May just move on the next section and blend in and see how it looks as a whole? Thanks Lez, I could always cover it in ivy! Part of it is intended to be 'hidden' by a retaining wall and (street scene) feature. An additional terrace cottage is planned to complete the run of houses overlooking the turntable, almost abutting the the bridge wall (no back garden) otherwise it'll just be a grass bank effect, which would you think will provide the greater interest and feature? Have spent and hour and a bit, painting up a few further panels on 'Llangeitho RoadBridge', not all of the finished brickwork will be seen, hidden in part in places, however I have painted these up and will complete as if they were on full view, done first so as to gain experience and to get the technique of obtaining the correct effect for those that are, when it comes to working on them? Applied further 'grouting' mix of DAS and Artex on to the applied Precision Blue Brick panels...... and after allowing to dry have applied a 'test' of weathering powders (smoke and dark earth mix) into where you would expect grime to accumulate over the years, this has seemingly toned down the starkly contrasting blue brick paint and mortar, will work on the other panels in similar manner.....quite pleased at the initial outcome - will add some indication of weed growth in the corners and crevices later? Why there’s a whole patch at the right hand side that’s pretty much standard brick colour! The station side of the bridge has been worked upon this evening....beginning with the 'raw' blue brick colouring.......the same mix of Artex and DAS clay has been rubbed into the surface, allowed to dry essentially, but before totally dry the excess was remoaved with light thumb pressure....... As there is a residual bloom of the mixture remaining on the surface, it was necessary to take a fibreglass pen to it and lightly took the excess whiteness off down to a more acceptable colour before the task of weathering and toning takes place....this also left some lighter brick effect where the paint was removed? Have also made some progress too on painting up some of the medium tone colour onto the setts of the road surface.... Have a great weekend guys. Began the process of placing the initial surface colour onto 'Llangeitho Road', this will later be 'weather powdered', with one or two brighter bricks picked out, it is amazing how a seemingly repetitive task can be quite therapeutic after a 'stressful' workday....? Getting into a routine now by the look of it, spending a couple of hours on Cambrian Street is a real tonic, especially if it seems to be successful! Have 'completed the initial' painting of the sett service / pathway of 'Llangeitho Bridge' - this will be allowed to dry completely before weathering with powders and giving an indication of some weed growth where you would expect it to grow in the cracks and crevices along the base of the wall and pavements, but not too heavily though? Then will have a go at the inside walls of the bridge itself and then back onto the main brickwork itself..... Have moved on to weathering the road surface and the beginning of one section of inner wall of Llangeitho Road bridge....... The grey base colour has been allowed to dry completely and then just a few, random selection of bricks were picked out in a lighter stone colour and a couple of red setts.....then used a mix of dark earth and smoke weathering powders to take off the grey flat appearance of the road surface. Only lightly dusted the surface and brushed away with a soft brush, mixing some darker tones into the setts.......then sprayed with fixer to help adherence. Have made a start too on the one section of wall.......but left the whole side for another evening........, I am planning to have the foot way lined by Victorian style 'cast iron bollards'. The addition of the weathering powders has brought some definition to the road surface I believe and taken the 'cold' hard look.....hope this is an improvement, I feel quite happy with it...? I have perhaps learnt one improvement I could do next time I use Wills sheets, and that would possibly be to cut into the individual sheets so that the 'bricks' 'interlock' rather than I have done so here positioning panels side by side, thus potentially remove the 'block' appearance....? One further update, to say that the road surface is as complete as I intend to take it (for now)....the bridge internal walls have also been weathered, will add 'weeds' into the wall base later and line the pathway with 'cast iron bollards' at scaled 5' spacing.......
