PS, do the wheels on the ground work yet...?

Hello, I assume you mean that 08 I am building? It is still resting on my work bench for another day when I am bored / brave / stupid enough to tackle it again.

I sorted out the acceleration issue. My prodigy advance has a speed step button to change it to 128 steps- simple.

The volume is still a tad high for me, but as I am the shed at the bottom of the garden I am not bothering anyone.

My class 47 arrived today in BR blue. Unusually for me this actually works and the sound decoder is pretty cool.

I have now planted the bridge and added a bit more scenery. The retaining wall is now going to be Mark 3. Mark 1 failed due to cheap crappy clay that cracked. Mark 2 bowed like a banana despite being braced. So on to my next cunning plan.

Hello there. Time for a few photo's.

post-18380-0-54836000-1460285037_thumb.jpegpost-18380-0-65302500-1460285067_thumb.jpegpost-18380-0-86619500-1460285089_thumb.jpeg

The first 3 show the changes to the rear of the clay siding and hillside. There is a OO gauge Tin mine hiding amongst the trees as an attempt at forced perspective.

The retaining wall appear ok. Loads to do here yet, but I need to restock on clump foliage etc before I can tidy this area up.

These 4 shots show the changes to the ground cover and the goods shed area. The engine shed is due a coat of paint at some point.

The last 2 are of finished wagons.

The presflow is a M&M kit- I just need 4 more now!

The SSA is finally finished. It has sat on my work bench for almost 2 years, I am quite pleased with the scrap load. This model is not perfect, but looks good to me.

I will build some more TTA's next in a batch build. I need 5 to run behind my 47.

Hello Father,

You have been busy, it's all coming to life now, I like the deep retaining wall in particular.

As for the M&M Models Presflow, how did you find it goes together? I've just invested in a few M&M kits and they look very well designed.

Keep up the good work

Jinty ;)

Hi Jinty,

The M&M kit was great to build. Nice easy instructions and well designed. The only minor criticism I would offer is that some of the photo's used could have been in sharper focus.

The presflow is a difficult shape - I think whoever designed it was having a bit of a laugh, but the model soon comes together nicely.

If you also purchased their wheel set you are in for a treat. They have nice bearings and fit well into the axle housing with a bit of fettling.

Enjoy,

D.

Hi Dougal,

No I didn't get their wheelset with the roller bearings, but I've purchased a good few of their 3/16" ID - 5/16" OD roller bearings ready to try and fit to some Slaters hornblocks for my 8750PT. They are fantastically free running.

I spent an enjoyable few hours testing/ playing trains aside from a spot of track cleaning all went well. However, I did discover that I really need two shunters to run the layout a bit easier.

I have fancied having an Ixion Folwer for a while, but the prospect of sound fitting one left me quite cold.

A quick search on Doogle and I found a sound equipped one for sale from DG trains. So, now a few hundred pounds lighter I have one on order.

Can't wait, D.

Hello, just fitted a replacement speaker in my Heljan rail bus. I removed the lower chassis section whilst trying to get at the faulty speaker and now I can't get the motor to sit properly in its housing. I am afraid to try anything too dramatic as the wires around the motor are REALLY tight and I don't want any breaking of wires.

It is probably really easy to refit it, but I can't figure it out. Anyone had some experience, if so any advice and pictures would be really helpful,

Dougal.

All done.

I fiddled with the under chassis and removed the adhesive pads that were fitted to the various wires, these were the culprit.

Now I have a working rail bus and it sounds great.

I have since cheerfully chopped of the ankles of a few passengers and placed them. The driver is going to be painted a bit later- Sadly he had more radical surgery with bilateral above knee amputations required to get him to fit.

The origional speaker was fitted in the floor, but I placed mine in the roof and drilled out the exhaust- the sound is great and it's saves me having to faff about trying to relocate wires to the under chassis again.

I will post some photos once the driver is done.

Dougal,

you might want to talk to "2manyspams" - I think he had a Heljan railbus - worth a PM I think.

best

Simon

All sorted now Simon, I managed to refit the motor.

I have spent the last hour testing/ playing. The addition of a driver and a few passengers makes all the difference.

Hi Dougal, any chance of some pics of the Railbus, I have a couple to fit with send when I get round to sending the chips off to Howes.

Best regards

Craig.

Hi Craig,

Here you go.

You can just see the driver in this view as the Railbus enters the station approach loop. (The driver is the one in a flat cap, not the red dress!) post-18380-0-15030600-1460481607_thumb.jpeg

A side view as the Railbus passes the clay siding.

And a final shot passing the signal box as the Railbus pulls away from the station.

Very excited today as my CMX track cleaner has arrived! I purchased one on a whim after I had spent far too much time cleaning my track. For a small layout used on a daily basis, I have no idea how it gets so dirty.

Has anyone used one of these before? I plan to use lighter fluid in mine as that usually cleans the track pretty well.

Once I have tested / played with my new toy I might add some sort of wagon cover so that I can run it on the layout in disguise.

It is pretty heavy, so I guess I should establish which loco can actually move it first!

Hello and welcome to my shed.

Today I have been testing my new CMX track cleaner.

post-18380-0-63652000-1461150866_thumb.jpegpost-18380-0-69026800-1461150877_thumb.jpeg

Neither the 08 or 20 could make it budge, but the class 33 easily pushed it around.

I need to fit some 3 link couplings and buffers at some point. I don't use Kadee couplers.

Here is a VDA kit under construction. I ignored the instructions, (what there was) and just worked to a photo. Probably one of my better builds, so far.

Last weekend I added a bit more to the corner section by the clay siding.

Still loads to do, but it is starting to look better.

Mrs Doyle bought me a few railway signs.

The no spitting one is probably my favourite, but I like the Cornish adverts too.

That is it for now.

Do you think you could disguise the track cleaning car as some form of specialist tank wagon by the addition of a deck & British-style buffer planks?

You could then just run it in the occasional train.

Btw, the broody smellchequer changed your Monika again, but I Kort it! :)

Hi Simon, way ahead of you!

I read a post on RM web for changing the HO scale track cleaner into a box van. I have a spare Lima continental van which might do or I might embellish it as some sort of tank wagon. This might be a better option as it is already tank shaped.

Btw, it works well, but is a bit hesitant over peco points, especially the v crossing.

My Minerva Peckett with sound arrived yesterday (purchased for a bargain price on a popular auction site).Today I played with it in my shed. Usually with sound equipped loco's the sound has to be turned on by pressing F1. However the Peckett started making noises the moment I placed it in the track.

As my layout is in the garden I didn't pay much attention to the various bird songs- especially a cuckoo. However I soon realised that the sounds were coming from my loco. I had to lift it up and put it to my ear to be sure that I was not going mad!

Looking at the sound file I have several sounds stored under F23 and F24, so my sanity remains for today at least.

btw, what a great loco, the glacial paced creeping over each sleeper is really impressive. Usual disclaimers.

Paul Martin and Paul Chetter have indeed included several surprises in their sound project for the Minerva Peckett.

Today I had planned to do a bit more on the VDA, but I didn't fancy soldering today. I wanted to paint!

Looks like the clay works have got themselves a little Fowler.

post-18380-0-78489500-1461423225_thumb.jpegpost-18380-0-40449900-1461423241_thumb.jpeg

I am pleased with the repaint. I even managed to fit the wasp stripes kind of straight.

I think the livery really suits the Fowler, especially with a light dusting of clay powder.
