RAY NORWOOD
The Hut is a edged brass kit from Seven models Is was very easy to put together, I fitted a fails bottom and fitted a yellow LED, as I did not wont a bright light, I wonted a light with a yellowish tint. I put some greenery around the bottom of the wall and some ivy hanging down. The water cranes are from Skytrex Models, I found the base to big so I made my own from plasticard with a iron drain cover from WIZARD Models. I sunk the base by cutting out the ballast and glued the base in place then filled in the edge with ash, waiting for the glue to dry so I can hoover the loose up.

treggyman
Hi Ray Looking really good.... Those water cranes certainly look good..... Is the hut clad with some brick paper or similar or are the bricks part of the etching ? Cheers Bill
RMweb Gold mudmagnet Posted July 28, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 28, 2016 Is the hut clad with some brick paper or similar or are the bricks part of the etching ? Cheers Bill The kit is etch brass. The brick work is very crisp and forms really well round the corners. I've built a couple of their 2mm and 4mm kits. bridgwatersteve
Was great to meet you at Minehead today and the layout looks even better in the flesh. The ash effect on the single road inspection pit is simply stunning. Little hiccups are always gonna be there but thorughly enjoyed your layout and I'll watch the progress on here. RAY NORWOOD
The Yard Lamps are made of 2mm DIA brass tube and Wizard Models ladders and 3mm white LED's. I cut the tube 130mm long then I filed two flats on the top of the brass tube, one 3mm from the top the other 12mm from the top On the flat on the top I drilled a hole right through two take the positive wire, the hole on the other side is to push the wire through the front hole to solder onto the + leg of the LED. The lamp top is out of cardboard cut in a 5mm DIA then cut from the centre out to make a shallow cone, made two holes in the top for the LED legs. I then bent the LED legs to shape and then soldered the - leg to bottom filed flat, the lamp will be the negative side. I cut a piece of brass for the bass and soldered it to the bottom of the tube 8mm from the bottom I then soldered the ladder to brass plate 18mm from the brass post, soldered the top of the ladder 30mm from the top of the post and made the ring on top out of brass wire and soldered to the top of the ladder I also made the ladder support of brass wire. I then threaded wire through the tube till the end can be seen through the hole on the top, I used a brass rod to push the wire through the hole at the top and then soldered to the positive leg of the LED making sure not to touch the brass tube. I soldered black wire to the bottom of the tube, then soldered a resister to the positive wire. Not in the photos I made the coping on top of the post out of cardboard. 10
RAY NORWOOD
So there has been no progress just lately as I have had a week down at far west of Cornwall, and have work to do at home.
RAY NORWOOD
The yard lamps I now painted black then dry brushed with grey. they are waiting to be planted in place. The water crane is a GEM Models, glued together and painted black and dry bushed with grey. The rubber pipe is of heat shrink and the chain (NOT IN KIT) is from Parkside, I dipped the chain in Carr's Brass Blackening. The coaling stage I made with plustruct H girder and T sections. The platform is made of 0.8mm plywood that I had cut for the sleepers earlier for the track work, a bit more on the frame to do. I will be covering it with Slater's corrugated sheet.

darren01
Looking good Ray, great bit of work you have done.
RAY NORWOOD
More work on the Coaling Stage. I used Slater's 4mm corrugated sheets and cut them to scale 8ft x 4ft, they was glued down so they over lap each other just like the builders would have done. I painted the roof with Humbrol grey and put Rail Match dark rust I put on randomly and used a dry brush to spread the paint out thinly then dry brushed matt black over it all. There are a few sheets slip down. I just got to put the coal inside and make some buckets to put the coal in from the coal wagons. 9
RAY NORWOOD
More Updates. I have made the buckets painted them dark grey then glued them in place. The coal is glued with 50,50 PVA and water. The coaling Stage is glued in place and bedded in with coal dust. A few pictures of two of the yard lamps in place Edited October 8, 2016 by RAY NORWOOD 13
