Good afternoon, everyone. Well, Mick, I don’t know what’s happened with Simon Beeston calling that location Marfleet. There is another photo’ which is captioned the same too. Perhaps he’s just got a bit muddled up.

Well, this afternoon there’s no question about the location of this photo’ by Philip Wheldale, on Flickr. It shows 31174 and 31238, on a Tilcon working on the 10th September, 1985.

Good afternoon, everyone. This afternoon we stay in Hull, thanks to a photo’ by John Law on Flickr. We see a portrait shot of shunter 03063 covered in it’s characteristic white along with it’s runner wagon at Botantic Gardens depot. The date  is not given, but may be c1980. There may be a glimpse of 08777 in the far left background.

What does he mean by Marfleet? No railway there since c1970.

Good afternoon all.

I have no idea what I was thinking about labeling that shot as Marfleet, either inebriated or another senior moment, possibly both, it is, of course at the gates to the dock complex on Hedon Road.

Good evening, everyone. This evening we are still in Hull, at Paragon station, courtesy of a photo’ by Syd Young on Flickr. It shows Deltic, 55014, The Duke Of Wellington’s Regiment as it enters the station with train 1D04, the 17.05 from London King’s Cross to Hull on the 14th June, 1980.

I did some work on this loco 20 odd years ago when a mate owned it. He insisted on stripping the checkerplate running plate back to bare metal for painting.  He's a bit of a perfectionist

Good evening, everyone. This evening, staying in Hull, thanks to Syd Young on Flickr, we go across to the embankment at Dairycoates, on the 6th March, 1988, and watch 31206 hauling two wagons. Some interesting bits of clutter, etc., in the foreground which are ripe for modelling.

Good afternoon, everyone. This afternoon, courtesy of a photo’ by Philip Wheldale, on Flickr, we go west, out of Hull, on the mainline, at Hessle Haven, and watch 47270 on a short train of five bogie container flats. The date is the 27th December, 1991.

Thank you for the 01.

Does the apparently glossy smoke box suggest it has been re-painted, or is it a 'trick of the light'?

Locomotives I have seen seem to have smokeboxes which are duller than the boiler cladding. I have always assumed this was due to the greater heat fluctuation of the smokebox plating.

Good afternoon, everyone. Well, drmditch, you ask a good question and I cannot answer it. Perhaps the glossy looking smokebox is trick of the light - as you say it’s usually the other way round with these things.

Now today’s photo’ is by Philip Wheldale on Flickr, and we go to the 30th March, 1985. We watch 37171 on a train of acid tanks leaving Hull with the under construction A63 on the right.

Evening Rob

Was the land behind the railway where Hull Yard was?

Good afternoon, everyone. Well, russ p, that was indeed the site of that Hull Yard. All gone now, and just another industrial area, etc., I cannot find much about it though, it’s as if it is completely forgotten and never existed!

Well, this afternoon, thanks again to Philip Wheldale on Flickr, we are still in Hull, at Hessle Road Junction, and we see 37417 on a short train of seven tanks. The date is the 4th May, 1993.

Good evening, everyone. Thanks to Syd Young on Flickr, this evening we go to Botanic Gardens depot on the 3rd October, 1987. We see two Peaks after having worked into Hull, from Bristol, on “The 45 Finale” railtour. It marked the end of Peaks on the mainline. The two locomotives were 45107 Phoenix, and 45007, Taliesin.

Good evening, everyone. Firstly, Mick, that is a pn excellent model of that signal, and thank you for posting it’s photo’. Now, this evening we go to Bridlington, courtesy of dubdee, on Flickr, on the 28th December, 1981, to see two photo’s of the preserved Black 5, 5305, on a special train to Scarborough, from Hull. It called at Beverley, which is where I got on the train, the last time a steam hauled train called there to pick up passengers.

Good afternoon, everyone. This afternoon, courtesy of a photo’ by Woolwinder, on Flickr, we go to Dunnington, on the Derwent Valley Light Railway. The date is the 8th August, 1979, and we can see J72, Joem, on what must have been one of the last passenger trains to run over the line.

Good evening, everyone. This evening, courtesy of a photo’ by Philip Wheldale on Flickr, we go back to Hull.  We see 37079, on a train of tanks, which had been in store at Melton, ex Blue Circle, and where apparently being taken away for scrap, in one of the scrap yards, by the 37. The date was the 22nd June, 1993.

Good evening, everyone. This evening we stay in Hull, thanks to another photo’ by Philip Wheldale on Flickr. It’s a scene so reminiscent of St. Trinian’s, with all those passengers leaning out of the windows - just the hockey sticks are missing! 😄
The train is 1Z46, from Scarborough to Swindon, the Yorkshire Venturer. 50037 is the engine and it is dated the 7th August, 1988.

Didn’t this get back to Hull via York and Selby?  Presume you had to get a local back up to Beverley?

Good evening, everyone. Firstly, MikeParkin65, I have been trying to remember whether, that train, from Scarborough returned to Hull via York and Selby, but I am completely blank about it. Hopefully someone can fill in the routing details.
Well, this evening, thanks again to Philip Wheldale on Flickr, we stay in Hull to take a look at one of the many Rylstone to Dairycoates stone trains. The train is seen at Hessle Haven, on the 6th February, 1992. It is double headed by 37685 and 37688. Perhaps Accurascales forthcoming 37’s might be able to provide the motive power in 4mm scale, but I’m not so sure about the wagons.

Details of the tour are on the Six Bells Junction website - see https://www.sixbellsjunction.co.uk/80s/811228hl.htm

Thanks. I believe I was on this, ticket bought for me by my parents as a Christmas present (from Sportscraft on the corner of Story Street). I was only 15 at the time. Remember there was a layover at Scarborough where, being too young for the pub the only interest for me was a dead Deltic in one of the bay platforms. Also recall the departure from York with snow on the ground and the loco been lit up by car headlights parked in front of the church  by Holgate bridge.

Good evening, everyone. Thank you, John for giving the link to the Six Bells Junction site, which I will make good use of from now on, but I still don’t recall the journey from Scarborough. I must be too old! And, MikeParkin65, you have reawakened memories of Sportscraft. I used to spend far too much money in there. 😉
Well, this evening, with thanks again, to Philip Wheldale on Flickr, we go to Melton, on the 8th June, 1984, and see 25262, on a down additional Freightliner service.
