RMweb Gold Popular Post Market65 Posted January 29, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 29, 2023 Good evening, everyone. Firstly, I’m a bit late this evening owing to some internet issues, but things seem to have finally settled back down. So onto more photo’s, again by John Turner, on Flickr. The first one is WD, Austerity, 90627, at North Ferriby with a Hull bound Class H train of coal, on the 26th October,1963. The second photo’ is something a bit different. It is of an LNER, 13T, Low Sided Wagon, a “Lowfit", E220768, built at Darlington in 1938, to Diagram 109, and it is loaded with a Ford Anglia motor car. It is seen at Hessle, on the 25th June, 1963. Now we return to Whitedale for tonight’s final photo’. It is of a four car hybrid DMU, with a class 101 DMCL, and then three class 104 cars. The unit is seen entering the station at Whitedale, with a local service from Hornsea to Hull, in about August, 1964. Best regards, Rob.

Not a 101, but a 111DMCL the radiator, exhaust pipe and battery box are the giveaway signs. Which would suggest that it is a NL unit thats has been borrowed hence the lack of destination blind. Thank you, Mick, for posting those diagrams of the layout at Hessle Quarry, they are most informative. It’s interesting to find out more about the Plymouth fish train, which unfortunately, would cease when fish was no longer conveyed by train. This evening, we have another two photo’s by John Turner, on Flickr, of Ivatt, 4MT, 43077, as it heads an empty stock train to Brough, at Hessle, where it will run round its train and form the Fridays Only 12:15 (approx) Brough to Hull service for workers at the nearby aircraft factory, on the 22nd November, 1963. And this photo’, on the same date, shows WD, Austerity, 90272, running non-stop through Hessle station with a Hull bound, Class F, unfitted express freight, with two, presumably empty, tank wagons at the front. Best regards, Rob. No one else has noticed 90272 this train should be stop and examine look at 13th or 14th vehicle

RMweb Gold Market65 Posted January 30, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 30, 2023 Good evening, everyone. This evening, with thanks once more to John Turner, on Flickr, we go to Bridlington and see a BR green liveried Brush Type 2, D5845, accelerating away from Bridlington with a south bound Class 1 passenger train in circa August, 1964. According to some comments on Flickr, the train, if the headcode is 1F87, is a returning excursion to Sheffield Midland. Now, in Driffield, we see pair of Thompson B1 locomotives, with 61012, “Puku", nearest the camera, running light engine , and approaching Wansford signal box, en-route to either Bridlington or Filey Holiday Camp in circa June, 1964. And, finally, WD, 90573, of Mexborough, 41F, passes Brough Gas Works with a Hull bound Class K freight, on the 20th July, 1963. The GWR-style smokebox door number plate, and the star symbol of the off-side cylinder casing, will be noted. Possibly a 41F embellishment, according to the caption. RMweb Gold Market65 Posted January 30, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 30, 2023 Thank you, CJI, that’s quite right about that WD’s topfeed. Strangely it is not mentioned in the caption, on Flickr. I know Bachmann have made a WR, WD, complete with that type of topfeed in the past. I think it shows that many different locomotives as well as rolling stock could be seen in Hull and East Yorkshire, especially after WW2. Best regards, Rob. If it was a service train to Sheffield the headcode should be 1 E.. because in 1964 Brid to Sheffield would have been an inter-Regional move. And if it was an excursion it would have been either 1X.. or 1Z.. (depending on the way the NER used X and Z). Ao although the loco was Sheffield based was the train going there or not and was it actually 1E87 or had the headcode not been changed from a previous working? 1

And this photo’ shows a Dairycoates B1, 61255, alongside Bridlington South signalbox, possibly shunting those carriages of which the third one looks like a Hawksworth SK, in circa 1963. RMweb Gold Popular Post Market65 Posted February 1, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 1, 2023 Good evening, everyone. And, in this second photo’, we can see an unidentifiable WD, “Austerity", 2-8-0, as it trundles along the docks' line, at Ella Street, Hull, on the 19th August, 1963. And this second photo’ shows WD, Austerity, 90462, complete with snowplough, which was transferred from Thornaby to Dairycoates, in August, 1963. RMweb Gold Popular Post Market65 Posted February 3, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 3, 2023 (edited) Good evening, everyone, and russ p, I think the third carriage in the photo’ which you have pointed out from Tuesday, is probably, like I said in the caption, a Hawksworth SK. I can just make out the domed end to the roof. The doirs and windows seem to agree with that too. Well, this evening we are modernnised, with thanks once again to John Turner, and Ian Fleming, on Flickr, with locally allocated, 03137, complete with it’s match truck, running light engine past the entrance to Botanic Gardens, BG, TMD, on the 11th July, 1975. And this second photo’, with the same credits, shows WD, Austerity, 90265, as it takes the "up Goole branch" line, from Staddlethorpe Junction, with a Class H train of tank wagons, on the 18th January, 1964. RMweb Gold Popular Post Market65 Posted February 4, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 4, 2023 Good evening, everyone. Firstly, thank you, Robert Smith, for the extra information about WR WD’s. I had a friend who was very keen on WD’s, and the only WR example he had on his layout, had such a casing on the right hand side of the footplate. Sadly I have no photo’s I can post of it on his layout. Now, this evening we have three photo’s, of which the first two are by John Turner, on Flickr. This first photo’ is of an unidentifiable WD "Austerity" 2-8-0, and a Thompson, B1, 4-6-0, as silhouetted by the low evening sunshine, near the coaling stage at Dairycoates, next to the Dairycoates West signalbox, on the left, in about 1966. The second photo’ shows a driver and fireman walking towards the running sheds at the start of their shifts at Dairycoates depot, whilst WD, Austerity’s, with 90670 (leading) and 90016, make their combined way towards the "Cracker", the local name for the coaling stage, in again about 1966. And the third photo’, is by Paul Kearley, and shows, again, at Dairycoates, around one of the turntables, a class A7, 69778, along with two N8’s, 69393 and 69385. The date is the 18th May, 1952. RMweb Gold Popular Post Market65 Posted February 5, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 5, 2023 Good evening, everyone. This evening, with thanks again to John Turner, on Flickr, we, in this first of three photo’s see WD, Austerity, 8F, 2-8-0, 90704, inside one of the roundhouses at Dairycoates, in about 1966. Apologies are given for the grainy photo’, but it’s a record of the way things once were. And, in this second photo’, a truly great shot of locomotives around a turntable in Dairycoates shed, with a couple of unidentifiable 350hp 0-6-0 shunters, along with, from left to right, 61306, 90695, 90450, 90057, 90478, 61012 (formerly named "Puku") and 90462, again in about 1966. Sadly all but 61306, and maybe one of the diesel shunters have been scrapped. Finally, a photo’ of the Middlesbrough depot, Cravens, NER, 25T, steam breakdown crane, DE331153, complete with 6-wheel match wagon, DE901695, at Dairycoates, in again circa 1966. No information is available about why the crane was at Dairycoates. Best regards, Rob.
RMweb Gold russ p Posted February 5, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 5, 2023 Evening Rob . If the crane is still marked Middlesbrough it certainly wouldn't have allocated to Middlesbrough by then as the depot closed in 58 when Thornaby opened From an previous picture I hadn't released A7ss got similar smokebox doors to later J27 ones
RMweb Gold Popular Post Market65 Posted February 6, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 6, 2023 Good evening, everyone, and thank you, russ p, that’s most useful information regarding the breakdown crane, and the smokebox doors on the A7’s. Now, this evening, with thanks to Ian Fleming and John Turner, on Flickr, we go to Cottingham, we see TOPS numbered 31146, still retaining the early blue livery with cabside BR "arrows", as it approaches Cottingham with train 1J20, the 08:30 Scarborough to Sheffield, on the 26th July, 1974. The information is from the caption on Flickr, so I’m sure how accurate it may be, but the second character in the headcode box may or may not be a J. The second photo’, by John Turner, on Flickr, is of Riddles WD, Austerity, 90458, which appears to be providing some entertainment for its footplate crew at Dairycoates, in circa 1966. And, finally, a photo’ with the same credit, is of another WD, Austerity, this one being 90016, about to go under the "Cracker" - the coaling stage - at Dairycoates, in again circa 1966. According to a comment, on Flickr, the coaling stage was built in 1916, by Spencer & Co Ltd., Engineers, of Melksham. Best regards, Rob.
RMweb Gold Market65 Posted February 7, 2023 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 7, 2023 Good evening, everyone. This evening, with thanks again to John Turner, on Flickr, we see, in its last year of BR service, Neville Hill depot's, Gresley A3, 4-6-2, 60086, Gainsborough, as it makes a steady departure from Hull Paragon with a Class C parcels train, on the 8th February, 1962. According to the extended caption, on Flickr, the train was a midday departure to Leeds. And now, with the same credit, WD, Austerity, 90265, shares the roundhouse at Dairycoates, with 90458 & B1, 61255, in circa 1966. Best regards, Rob.
45125
Cranes that came from depots that closed would often be kept as spare( if they were in good order ) to cover for other going for overhaul. The Shirebrook crane had this honour several times. Al Taylor 2
