D1047 Posted September 30, 2015 Share Posted September 30, 2015 Here are a couple that seem hopeless on the face of it, but... APR 73 03. A Class 52 climbs away from the Severn tunnel near Pilning, March or April 1973 by Andy Kirkham, on Flickr It is a Swindon machine, and the nameplate looks as if it is the same depth as the number plate (although that might just be the blur of the photo). Could it be D1000 again? A Class 52 on the diverted 13:15 Paddington-Cardiff service at Narroways Hill Junction, 1975 by Andy Kirkham, on Flickr A poor picture due to a focusing mishap. But the loco seems to have (1) no allocation stickers (2) D still visible on the number plate (3) apparently some dents or scrapes on the corner of the cab. I'm fairly sure that the second from the right is 1041 Western Prince, but I can't see any distinctive features on the others. Hi Andy As Flood as said ,the small rectangle that houses the battery switch is at the 'B' end of the loco and on one side only, also the same side is the oval boiler port.Overhead flash positions , various types of windscreen wipers headboard clips if fitted and finally the paint scars then help to possibly identifying the loco.The circular window is the emergency fire bottle release and is on both sides of the loco and is slightly more off set from one side . If so then this is presumably between 1025 and 1029 because it lacks headboard clips (but not 1028, which had a cab vent). Can anyone narrow it down further? Probably September 1974. APR 74 14. It looks a bit to me as if the D has been burned off the numberplate, but I can't be sure. April 1974 APR 74 27.
