Obviously blocking the mirror is stupid (although I once had a car that didn't even have a mirror on that side - wasn't compulsory then, probably is now), but I've still got a tax disc holder, in the more usual position. I kept it for a tax disc sized parking permit.

When compulsory display of tax discs ended, I rummaged through all the old ones that had ended up in the glove box and put the oldest one I could find in the holder, just because. It was quite scary to see how much the tax had increased in the intervening 20 years.

I put a round bit of card in with 'Tax in Post' written on it to remind me of what my parents did back in the 70s and 80s!

On looking at new cars I made enquiries with the salesman about where the spare was. He enthusiastically pointed to a can of silly-foam stuff and claimed that spare wheels were no longer needed because this can's contents would reflate the tyre with foam to get you home.

I asked as to how the little can went about picking up all the little bits of rubber from down the road after a blowout and stuck them back together. There was no answer.

Hi

Exactly why when I bought my recent car I specified a spare wheel.

Cheers

Paul

What with car parking and potholes don't we live exciting lives in Norfolk. The rest of the world may be disappearing down a hellhole but our papers report on potholes!!!  Suppose it might frighten the horses. Incidentally Rouen House - worked the top floor there for thirteen years when it was the Norwich Weather Centre.

Not even an option on some cars. They've got rid of the spare wheel well.

Whilst not in the league of the peak district, or the Scottish Highlands, Norfolk and Norwich both have hills that can catch a few out. Such as Grapes Hill and Mousehold in Norwich, or the range of hills in North Norfolk. Many of those coming here on Holiday, from this forum, even withose without the attentions of foot specialists would have struggle to walk up from  Cromer Beach to the top of the hill behind the town..

Me, I live on a big peak, I look down in most directions down about 25ft from my hill 19ft above ASL.

Van without brakes, MOT, tax or insurance stopped on the M6. FFS.  :fool:

It would be funny if it wasn't so f***ing serious.

With the proliferation of ANPR cameras it never ceases to amaze me the people who take the p!$$ like this van driver. Driving with no brakes should be an automatic arrest and jail time as it is a potential manslaughter charge over and over again. I can't imagine the handbrake was doing awfully well at slowing the thing either. He can't have been the brightest tool in the drawer as he was probably noticed because of the lack of insurance/MOT/tax pinged the ANPR and the Police then subsequently discovered the rest.
