Popular Post Ian Smith
Modbury is at the Soar Valley Model Railway Club’s exhibition at Loughborough Grammar School this weekend. Andy Carlson has been assisting John Russell and myself today which allowed a couple of interesting trains : first his O2 with a pair of Southern coaches followed a little later by his Class 22 and some of his tankers Thanks for looking Ian
Popular Post Ian Smith
Yesterday, Chris Carlson replaced his dad helping out operate Modbury at the Loughborough show. This was of course another opportunity for more “odd” motive power to visit : a BR period 14xx (Dapol body on association chassis) and something considerably more modern - I’m sorry but I have absolutely no idea what it is!! a BR 2-6-2 - again I have absolutely no idea what class - clearly if it ain’t GWR my knowledge will be at best sketchy!! Finally, a huge surprise for me was that Modbury was voted “best layout” by the visiting public!! Thanks for looking Ian 15

Chris told me what the dmu was but I’m afraid I’d forgotten. As for the 2MT, I knew it woul be an MT of some sort but wasn’t sure if it was a 2MT, 4MT or even a glass half MT! 4

RMweb Gold Donw Posted August 19 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 19 I am not surprised it was voted as best layout it is well deserved. I see one of those tanks usually 41313 quite often on the IOW steam railway when walking the dog. Don

Ian Smith Posted Friday at 08:18 Author Share Posted Friday at 08:18 Just a quick mention that Modbury will be at the Swindon STEAM festival at the Steam museum this weekend. Along with many other exhibits in other scales, John Aldrick will also be in attendance with his 2mmFS Ivybridge layout. Ian
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted Monday at 09:40 RMweb Gold Share Posted Monday at 09:40 Really enjoyed seeing the layout at Swindon yesterday top class modelling anda. joy to watch. As I mentioned for me it was definitely 'best in show' and that was among some very class layouts. 7
RMweb Gold Popular Post queensquare Posted Tuesday at 06:34 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted Tuesday at 06:34 I went up to Swindon to help Ian with Modbury on Sunday and had an excellent day, it truly is a superb piece of work. Needless to say I took some bits and pieces along, my Midland 800 2-4-0 which shamefully has been waiting to be painted for over a decade and the rake of the late Steve Sykes wagons which are in my care. Thankfully, once I’d cleaned the wheels, the 800 acquitted itself well and Steve’s wagons looked very much at home behind Ian’s beautiful Dean Goods. Overall, a really enjoyable day. Ian Smith Posted Tuesday at 21:04 Author Share Posted Tuesday at 21:04 As Jerry mentioned above, Modbury was at the exhibition in the Steam Museum in Swindon last weekend. As he eluded to, I had press-ganged him into helping me on Sunday. I didn't manage to take many photos (apart from some similar ones to the ones posted by Jerry himself). The 15 Steve Sykes wagons were too long for my train tables, but we did have a run through the scene with them hauled by my Dean Goods, starting with the head of the train on scene and finishing with the tail just on scene too - as I was at the control panel, I didn't manage to get a photo for posterity, so am grateful to Jerry for recording the event. He also managed to take a short video of both this and his Midland Railway Class 800 which I hope I can persuade him to forward copies of. Jerry seemingly enjoying himself in charge of the Steam Railmotor!! Thanks for looking Ian

Jerry Yes - that 2-4-0 does look rather nice in North Somerset 'Improved Engine Blue' ! Midland 2-4-0s have always been a loco type I've liked, possibly as my Dad built up and motorised one of the old Ratio kits for the Johnson inside cylinder counterpart in 4mm/OO when I was a lad. I believe he still has it too.
