Ok so I carried on working on point 2 this morning and got as far as putting one of the switch rails in when I became unhappy at not only the quality of the work but also the fact that I had failed to file the switch blades, Doh! So after pacing up and down a bit and having a cuppa tea to calm the nerves I decided to embark on Point 3. What has become apparent is that I need a number of things to assist the smooth running of this point building operation. Firstly I need a proper FLAT surface to work on and big enough to fit an #8 on with comfort. Secondly I need some good flat files and lastly I need a little bench vice so that filing and bending can be done more safely and accurately. So once started I got into the swing of gluing down the sleepers which I think I have worked out the most economical use of the PCB's then to tack the straight stock rail on. This time I got it on about straight first time woohoo.. then filed up the frog which seems a doddle now and to think I was bothered by this before. At which point (sorry for the pun) I have to stop to go and earn an honest crust.. All in all I am really happy the the output today and feel I have learnt loads from the last two and hopefully can complete this one.

Final pic is the old and new points and my tidy word top. I really need to build a little work box. Hmm Sketchup here I come.

Looking good Tom

It's very satisfying to push a wagon through once complete...and that looks not to far off now.

Its easy to find a bigger workspace means more clutter. You seem to be doing fine so far.
